Has anyone modified the stock muffler? Is it worth doing? I know I could just install an aftermarket muffler but I just wanted to refine the stock stuff first. Thanks for the feedback.

I wouldn't worry about modifing anything until you get your pilot running properly.

Never tried to modify the stock muffler on a Pilot but FL670 modified one on a FL350 and said it made a improvement without adding too much noise, the 350 silencer is similar to the Pilot wonder if the same mod could be done to the Pilot?

What say you Fl670 :-) Details please.

Nutten wrong with playing with the stock stuff but I would jump right to the FMF Q2 Quiet Silencer Mod myself, have you seen this yet? http://www.pilotodyssey.com/fmf1.htm

shoubadaba is right get it running first...

Have you removed the clean out cover on the stock muffler and run the Engine to blow out all the crap that accumulates in the spark arrester ?

I modified the FL350 silencer by cutting it directly across the middle and taking a torch to remove the innner baffles (and some weight)
I then used the outer guard to align up the halves and welded it back together, ground down the weld and repainted it black and then
then reinstalled the guard. Looks like stock and only sounds a little louder.

I also left the last baffle towards the exit so that if a ranger tried the stick something in the exhaust it would still appear to be fully baffled...

I don't think I've tried this with a FL400 sliencer yet - As I haven't been riding in any National Forest or places with restrictions lately....
