The guy restoring my car is adding the charging system (I never used one). He does not have an FL350 harness, but has the regulator/rectifier and the charging coil. So I know the yellows goes to the yellows, the green from the alternator to the green on the regulator and also to ground. And the red/white to the + on the battery. But is the black wire on the regulator needed? Just not sure what it does. |

I would need to check the manual but from memory I think that is the key on power wire. I can check here in a bit if needed. |

That is what it looks like. Is it needed for the charging system to work correctly? Does that mean it just gets switched +12V? I appreciate the help when you get the chance. Don |

OK just checked, yes black is key on power +12v and yes you need it. Do not leave the black wire powered all the time, a toggle switch is fine if you do not have an ignition switch. On your red/white wire be sure to run a 15 amp fuse inline. Good luck, Steve. |

I think this next pdf answers your question. It is a Honda color code explanation. It's for small motorcycles but I don't see why it wouldn't be the same for the atv's

I leave my ignition switch on all the time on my 350s, does this have some negative effect? I have never seen it drain the battery...yet.... |
