I have a Karavan Snow Mobile Trailer. Been good for us for a while now.

I have a problem that when I get going over 45 or 50 its as if I have a out of balance tire. Tire guy says these tires they do not balance and to check bearing.

With the tire on I can wiggle the tire a bit. With just the hub I can as well.

So now I'm learning how to do these bearings. And asking for a bit of advice.

Is this cap a press fit?

Yeah its a pressed fit between the rusted area and the non rusted area or cap, you usually can cave man the cap off by tapping (gently) a stiff, strong scraper between the cap and hub (rusted part) work it all around until you can get a screwdrive between them, work it around keep increasing the size of the screwdriver blade it will pop off, don't get in a big hurry or you will break your screwdriver

IT is a good idea to repack the wheel bearings every couple of years with the smaller tires. Generally you don't balance trailer tires but they can be balanced or at least checked. The problem you described leads me to believe that maybe a belt in the tire has shifted/broken, especially if it was ok the last time you used the trailer.

I used a dull chisel and the cap popped right off.

The bearings look good. feel a bit sloppy. But its hard to tell with them out of the case.

To get closer and clearer I'll need my macro lens. for now this is the look.

I'm just going to replace them. Keep these as spares.

Thanks King.
Actually since I bought and had these tires its been doing it. I only use it a couple three times a year. :(

New tires as of Spring ECJ. Was ok ish.. PA ride definitly was bugging me since I was driving alone and pondering too much.

Weel I'm into it now so bearings will be done. I'll bring these with me.

Thank you.

It looks like the bearing rollers have some scores on them. Definitely on the decline side of OK. They are good to get you home in a pinch but if loaded they will not last. Problem with trailer bearings is that you don’t ride in the trailer, can’t hear how bad they sound to know to change them.

The real trick is putting it all back together so that there is no play but the bearing is not too tight. Just ask for advice on that one, five people will give you six ‘right’ ways to do it.

pictures not showing on my comp for some reason, but you may want to throw some bearing uddies on there to, about 40 bux for a pair i think, lets you fill them with a grease gun, and the spring keeps giving bearing grease as it will take it...

More pics.

After doing these the whels are nice and firm.

Over 70 I hear a little bit of noise. Probably my Universals.

So glad I did these over before this weekend to come.

Thanks for the help guys!
