that might work actually. can you send me the 2d flat drawing of the bottom(maybe export as 300DPI JPG, .EPS, or .AI)? im not very good with cad software yet so it might be a little clunky. Maybe there is a way i could use cad file to double check my work (use it as an overlay?)

the vector pilot head drawing i did took a while but really measures out good, when i overlay the scan(scan has awesome accuracy with simulated measure tool in photo shop especially when printed out and remeasured). base gasket should be quite easy. best thing would be would to get my hands on some used ones to take the guesswork out of it. i don't have a pilot Engine to test fit it on :(

Can you use a DWG of DXF?

I can digitize a JPG pretty quick in AutoCAD as long as I have two known points to scale the JPG to. I can then extrude it to whatever thickness you need and send the model back in BMP, DGN, DWG, DWF, DXF, DXX, EPS, RVT, SAT, STL or even WMF.

Show off, does sound kinky tho :-)

Maybe you can download pics in this thread and have a go at it ?

The one scan I included the rule I think it was on the 32nds and 64ths scale of the machinist rule

how are you importing it to the laser ? jpeg ? dxf ?

can you open a dxf file in photo shop

you my need cad software

look at raster to vector software freeware it will take a jpeg and turn it in to .dxf file
most cnc machines will accept a .dxf file

if you are just measuring a jpeg

you my have to put all the dimensions in to a cad program or manually into the laser control

Here's my quick (10 minute) drawing of Hoser's pic, not really to scale since it's really hard to see the tick marks of his rule.

Speed i was able to match following perfectly with overlay in the design program ray had. here are some wood prototypes. the measurements are pretty much spot on, some appear about .015-.020 bigger because we were burning wood. wood burns wider but the copper will not burn with wide strokes.

tomorrow night i will clean up pilot vectors some more, check measurements, and scan and vector the fl350 gaskets also.

so far the pilot models look awesome.

Hoser when i get a free day im coming over with copper prototypes to check fitment on pilot parts and have them hoser inspected. we will begin running metal once the machine is equipped with O2 instead of N2.

Metal cuts on samples he had were smooth and clean also.
anyways.. here are the pics.

ALSO: anyone have ideas for FL400 trans gasket? I am feeling confident, im sure i could get a wide format scan done of one.. the dpi in the scans seems to translate perfectly onto both printer and engraver, VERY PRECISE! :)

Looks great bring it on we can test fit them, I will send you back with some ATC250R and TRX250R gaskets too.

dxf was awesome for super fine tuning and aligning cylinder stud passages with main bore! thanks speed.

when i get off work today i am going to hunt down a small sample of 22 or 24 gauge copper/aluminum to make official samples of the pilot set and send off to hoser to inspect and critique.

Get out the phone book look for sheet metal shops and architectural sheet metal they will have small drop offs they will sell I am sure they also can give you a price on a 3x8 or bigger sheet of metal

Here is a scan of the CR500 cylinder gasket for the CR500 Pilot guys.. 300DPI

ok, on a stock oem unused fl350 head gasket I get :

1.07 mm entire gasket

0.25 mm thin layer

0.53 thick layer

This is just using a digital caliper so I would guess its one 0.5 mm and 2 x 0.25 mm

sweet thanks sunblock.. i think i am going to make both the FL350 and FL400 head gaskets from .027 22 gauge copper, its about as thick as your average credit card(.030)

this translates into about .68mm

fl350 base will be .015 aluminum

fl400 base i will know by tomorrow (hopefully same thickness as fl350)

Here are two more for you

Top one is off a 81-84 ATC250R its a factory copper .020 thick

Second one is off a 85-89 ATC250R and TRX250R its a 3 layer gasket totaling .050 I would make these out of the same thickness copper your making the others out of, Honda use to offer a thinner copper gasket for this application and the guys use to run them I forget the details I know they were much thinner and bumped compression, think they were off a 84 CR250.

Pilot head gasket is .030 all 3 layers

What other measurements do you need?

Are you going to be making pilot tranny gaskets as well? I had mentioned in another thread that I have a friend who can do them and any other non-metal gaskets for cheap. I would just need to know which and how many to get an idea of what it would cost.

The Pilot trans gasket is too large to fit on a scanner.
