Me! WooHoo lol :-) :-) :-)

I have been going round n round trying to find a cheaper shock that is adjustable, somewhat at least. Also been kicking around longer travel rear suspension ideas for several years too. Hopefully do some prototype testing this year...I have 2 real usable ideas to try. Spring is just around the corner and I will be submitting my plans for full critique then.

I do think these fox 2.0s and maybe a little axle grinder work will be great for stock travel. I will post up lots of pictures as it goes on.

I can deliver them for you!

Here's my contribution to the discussion.
My set-up comes in at 7.75" of rear travel, and is well safe from u-joint bind on both ends. I would say that I could get 1/4" more on each end and not be near bind, without grinding on the shafts. Both upper and lower mounts are relocated, but that really does not affect the amount of travel available in the stock rear suspension.
I made bump stops to limit the stuff travel (is that the right term?) of the suspension to keep it away from u-joint bind and upper link contact with the frame. This allowed me to use a longer shock with only the need to set-up the shock mounts to limit droop. I originally used these big truck air shocks on it that were 24" long and had 8.5" of travel. The concern was that if I lost the air out of a shock for any reason the suspension would colapse and self destruct, so these bump stops will save that from happening. I can remove the shocks completely and still drive the buggy with no damage.

shocks removed, buggy will still drive:

some pics to show the travel avaiable.

I currently have FOX coilovers from a Polaris XC chassis with an extension to fit in the same location as the air shocks were. It gives up a little compression travel because of the shorter stroke shock but still works good. Might relocate the mount some day.

Moral: If your willing to relocate shock mounts and maybe add the bump stops you'll have more options as far as replacement shocks to get better ride and a little more travel..

As I see it, the relocated mounts don't effect the limits of the stock drive shafts

But the relocated mounts and longer shock travel allow you to get that extra 2.5" of compressed travel

Your droop travel would be the same as everyone else's here (with standard drive shafts

The stock shock design (4" travel) are what are limiting the upper travel

I think we are saying the same thing

My quick math gave me a max travel of 7.3125"'ish with the stock joints, but your 7.75" makes sense

think the best alternative is to go longer and relocate for sure
