Ok, so I have my FL350 under way....piece by piece...and losing a piece every day it seems

But I got an opportunity to buy a pilot, bone stock and running...so i got it..today
Will be a dune/desert runner, not alot of tight trails here in So Cal

Since I can't leave well enough alone, I plan to tackle the pilot in phases (front susp, Engine, etc.)

I have read almost every link on this site, and some of them end up with...I'll post on the results, etc. but there are not any real updates

So I'll ask some Engine questions for now that may seem redundant, but I've looked

1. Exhaust pipe
4x4 tough, power pros, and ATVR all seem to be the expansion pipe, am I correct in that?
If not, any one more successful than the other
I've read the rev pipe seems to be better than the torque pipe across the board, is this still the train of thought?
Recommendations? (I'll probably pair this with a 39mm pwk air stryker and a CR250 4-petal reed cage, boyesen fiberglass reeds & less restrictive intake mod)

2. Does the muffler that comes on those system work well?
I saw the posts about the FMF Quiet, is this a more ear friendly solution than the 18" muffler that comes on the standard systems?

3. Carb - it seems the 39mm pwk is enough, any thoughts on that

4. Porting - any real wizards out there with the porting on these? MacDizzy, etc.

5. Head - is the speedchaser head a worthwhile investment considering all of the above, if the stock head is in good shape

6. Clutch - I'm torn between the simplicity of the power bloc vs, the 102C
Also, the power block is now almost a $350 dollar clutch
Any thoughts on the drive clutch considering todays costs?

If there is anything else anyone can think of for the FL400 power plant, let me know

Thanks,

Bill

Congrats on the pilot. Is it an 89 or 90 what did you pick it up for? Find it on craigslist?

Carb 39mm keihin
do a prefilter system
powerpors / atv racing rev pipe
powerbloc clutch with 11 weights
If its a 90 then it comes with the 4 reed peddle style
Speedchaser head
port job
hid conversion.

Will you be making the pismo trip next month?

Where abouts in SoCal are you from? I am in Rancho Cucamonga, and Shoubadaba is only about 10 minutes away. There are quite a few board members here, Halo, Westecbuilder, Kuma just to name a few. Hopefully you can make the pismo trip. It is going to be a blast.

As far as your mods go, the list looks pretty good, but as Shoubadaba already knows I am going to say this, I would suggest running the stock clutch if you are just going to ride sand. With my old pilot, I ran those mods with a stock clutch and I would beat a nicely built pilot with the PowerBloc clutch. IMO it is not needed for sand. I am sure others would disagree, but that is just my opinion. Maybe save that mod for last, if at all. With those mods, I would also suggest the right set of paddle tires, being a 24x11-10 Skat Trak 10 scoop. The size will keep the stock gearing and will also provide good floatation in the sand. I prefer the "edge" pattern for improved turning ability.

We are always making trips to Dumont and Glamis as well, hopefully you can join us for a few. Always looking to add another pilot or odyssey owner to the group.

Thanks guys, I'm in Oceanside

Don't know when you are going to Pismo, but I am actually planning on going with some neighbors at the end of July

We make quick shots out to Gordon's, Rockatillo, etc.

I've got a set pf paddles from the Odyssey, they're 22x14x10

So who is a known porting genius with these?

I was stoked when I got the Odyssey, but the second I started tearing it down, I wanted a Pilot!

Is there a particular order you should start with? Like will it help to upgrade the carb if you don't have the pipe or the clutch?

You might as well do all your mods are once since each mod generally requires a re-jet

I run the stock clutch as well in the sand and I find it does well, each mod alone will not do much, besides the pipe, but all mods together you get a much better performing pilot.

I plan on doing the exhaust, intake and carb all at once

Possibly even a head job

But now my problem is not having a pipe, so all will need to wait until the whole package can be put together

Thanks,
