I am serious about selling this thing if anyone is interested. It is running killer now, first pull, anytime, anywhere! It still needs a little bit of work here and there though, one rubber Engine frame mount needed, head net, seat back foam and recover and rear disc brake pads. I believe that is all it needs... maybe front tires.
I am thinking about listing it on ebay, anyone have any idea what kind of money this should bring? I seen one sell for $1300 then seen another sell for $600 so I don't know. I want something with suspension and much more power!

I am missing something and need to ask someone that works on this kind of stuff regularly to help diagnose my problem.
1981 FL250 with new top end and 135psi compression
new coil, coil wire and plug
replaced CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition)
repaired all instances of grounds
the only thing I can find is the exciter coil ohm reading, mine reads 190 and specs call for 245 but I don't know if 190 falls into any range given like the other components do.
for example, the pulse coi; should be between 20-60 ohms as per the service manual, mine reads 49.

here is what I have (parenthesis indicates service manual specs)
coil primary 0.7 ohms (0.2-0.8)
coil secondary 8.9k (8-15k)
exciter coil 190 (245)
pulse coil 49 (20-60)

Any ideas? I am getting tired of trying to fix this thing and am about to sell it and give up!
Thanks!
Jim

ME TOO!! :D

stranger things have happened.
I put the plug back in and tightened it down, gave it one last yank before covering it back up and the damn thing fired right up, first pull, ran like a champ, idled perfectly. I have no idea what happened but I know it had no spark before hand, I just rode it for a half hour almost without problem.

There is a small plastic nut that acts as a compression nut that holds the plug wire onto the coil. Loosen that nut and remove the plug wire from the coil. Trim about 1/4 - 1/2 inch off the plug wire and reinstall it. If you don't have a solid metal core plug wire you would be better of running one of those.

hey, thanks for parts! This new coil is not like that, at least I don't think it is. It came with a new wire bonded to the coil, all I had to do was put the plug terminal on it. and it is not solid core either. But, whenever I pull the cord and get it on the compression stroke and then give it a yank, it fires right up on the very first pull and idles perfectly, incredible for something that did not even have spark a minute ago! I will post a pic of the coil I have if ya wanna see it.

Glad your running again, post the source and price of the coil too.

Coil was around $20, Denis Kirk http://denniskirk.com has one (Ricks Pulsor) for around $20 as well, but were back ordered when I needed it the most!

I think this would be much more fun with an aftermarket clutch setup.

Yes raising the RPM of the Engine even 500 RPM really makes a difference, stock its
like it is taking off in second gear not first...
