Not gona happen. You have to get the rear bracket off the starter to get it out and the only way to do that is to pull your drive clutch. Why would you remove the gas tank ??

The Official Honda Manual says its necessary to remove the gas tank to remove the starter. Have you removed the starter without taking out the stock gas tank first?

Sorry my bad. It's late.
Yes you will have to remove the gas tank because two of the long bolts go through outside cover and into the starter to hold it. You will also have to pull the drive clutch to get two bolts out of the rear bracket holding the starter.

I was able to remove my starter without removing the primary or secondary clutch. I did not take off that braket, just loosened it enough the starter would go past it at an angle once pulled out.

I unbolted the disk brake and moved it back. And you can get to the bolts on the starter mounting bracket with a combination wrench with the clutch still on.

Fuel tank needs to come out too. Need to take the gas cap off to get it out of the framerails.
