Is it possible to take the outer cv joint apart? I have my axles out and want to remove all of the old grease from the outer. the best way to do this is to take it apart and clean in the parts tank, but i don't see a way to take it apart. What have you guys done when you change the grease and boot on the outer. I'm not crazy about leaving old grease in the cup.

don't take the outer CV apart there is no non destructive method of
of getting it apart without the use of caveman tools, clean it up as
best you can and use new CV grease, if the old grease is contaminated
with dirt then you will have to flush the old stuff out with solvent.

There is a clip on the end of the axle you have to remove to take it apart,
they make a driver tool that goes around the axle you put the axle in a
vice and beat on the driver tool this sometimes pops the clip off I seen
once where it tears the end off the axle, the other way is to cut the axle
off close as you can to the CV roll the CV over 180 degrees and remove
the clip but now you have a junk axle.

the old grease is not that dirty, but i sure do not want to leave it in. looks like a good soak in the tank and blow it dry, then work in the new grease and call it good.

hoser - how importnat is it to get the exact amount of grease in each joint. did you measure yours based on the manual or did you just use the pack that came with the boot kit? i'm using the 2477 kit from the auto parts store.
