Is there any special trick to taking the linkage off of the shaft coming out of the transmission? I took the bolt all the way out but it still does not want to come off

Have you tried to spread it apart gently at the slot where the bolt goes through? You have to remove the bolt as it engages a slot in the shaft. You working on a fl400 or fl350? Are you servicing your gearbox?

Sorry. Project 350.
I will try that tomorrow. I'm trying to figure out if the cables are froze or if there is something bigger

Got it off. It was slightly bent so it was tough. Thanks for the input
