Still on a restoration project, got it started and moves a little. Not taking it out yet till I go over a lengthy list Canadian oddy gave me couple weeks ago. This topic relates to front brake handle that doesn't move at all. I found a found a old topic from 2005

Again I got the manual, notes, don't know what I am doing and willing to listen to ideas as to best break down of the front brakes to evaluate and repair. thanks oddy fans!!

Maybe a simple question but I can not remove the brake cover from the front. want to get inside brakes and look and investigate and I just can not get the drum cover off. Don't want to bend back plate or anything. Any tips or tricks? Thanks

You should be able to remove the rubber cap and adjust the shoes back so the drum can be removed. I guess it could be rusted on. You want to turn part 12 and 16 in the picture. This should retract the shoes making it easier to remove drum.

Sounds like you are trying to get the brake drum off? If so, remove one of the little rubber plugs on outside of drum (1st pic) and adjust brake pads in with a screwdriver. Shine a flashlight inside the holes and you will see a cog towards the bottom of the wheel (2nd pic). You can turn with screwdriver. Use screwdriver as a lever to press and turn. Don't recall which way but turn it until it loosens and drum comes off or if it tightens and wheel stops turning, go the other way.

You will probably need to back the brake adjusters off before you can remove the brake drums I think the manual shows how to back off the brake adjusters?

You can see the adjusters here.

Hoser, I always try searching site first before asking questions, this is definitely the best forum board I have been on! Love the site, organization of it, and people on it are incredible help.

so looking at diagram above, I thought part 8 was the adjuster and one of them turned sideways! What exactly is part 8 and is it supposed to turn sideways?

So #12 & 16 is was adjusts the pads in and out correct?

If that is a wheel cylinder on top, is that another cylinder on bottom or just a pad holder and adjuster?

Thanks for the assistance!!

Part #8 is the retainers for the brake shoes you will see and understand once you remove the drums.

12 & 16 are the adjusters you will see them in the holes in the front side of the drums the holes are about 1/2" diameter and have rubber plugs covering them a small straight blade screwdriver is used to adjust them. I forget what way to turn them to loosen you will have to play with it, when you turn them a while and you can no longer spin the drum you know your going the wrong direction haha :-)

Thx Hoser! I have been apparently messing The with retainers as though they were the adjusters! Oops! Now I understand where the adjuster actually is! Good to know!
