1st issue-- 89 pilot- fresh rebuilt Engine, fired up took for test drive nothing serious and the 90 going into the can for the cooling system blew off, It slipped back in, but question is is that supposed to be able to come in and out or do I need to jb weld it in?--pic attached. 2nd issue--85 fl350 wont rev out, hits about 1/4 to 1/2 throttle and falls on its face. carb has been gone through twice, new plug, new rings, great compression. Complete Engine rebuild new bottom end from Speedchaser, honed and new rings. Any Ideas?

Not sure about #1 but I don't think it is suppose to just come out. Does it leak ?? Is it o-ringed ?? As for #2 that sounds like jetting or a fuel issue but it could also be a worn out or slipping belt, or worn out (grooved) faces on the clutch. |

#1 no its not o-ringed. #2 it does it just sitting still when you rev it up, new gas in it and same jets as it had before i blew the bottom end out and ran great. |

The elbow on the pilot cylinder does come off, but should not come off or pop off easily. There should be threads for you to screw the elbow on and off. Please see pic, I had the elbow break off and had to replace.

I have never seen the elbow come out before I think they just press in if it was mine I would drain the cooling system remove the elbow clean it perfectly and JB weld it back in OR use the correct loctite on the press in part then JB on the outside to ensure it never comes out again. Whats with those head nuts? Are those locking nuts? |

#2 Sounding like a limiter problem Could it be the rev limiter cutting in. Have you pull the Engine out or played with any of the earthing wires. or a broken wire to the gear box change switch / wiring or connector. wyeeoddy |

Any drag or friction will change your torque setting. If you lube the threads on a regular nut with oil you have to change your torque wrench settings. The nylon causes drag as the threads cut in. The real question here is, will it make any real difference ?? In my opinion not much, but then again I am a bit of a hack n whack guy. I do things others won't. Also a nylock nut is only good to about 250'F but that is good enough for what I do -- ooops out comes some of my Neanderthal. My motto is get it done and will it run ?? |

OK Im going to say this again , the head is not an issue, compression is fine no issues what so ever with the head. The ISSUE IS the coolant port in the can popping out ""where I am pointing in the picture" that is with the PILOT |

That being said, the pilot issue has been resolved. |
