Good morning fellas....bought a parts ody awhile back and it has a 102c comet clutch on it and was thinking about putting it on one of my odys with a stock clutch.... I'm unsure about the condition on the faces. They have some deep grooves from where the belt has been riding. Is this clutch to worn out to use because of the grooves, or could i try to sand them out... thanks DUNE DART

There is nothing wrong with that as far as I am concerned.
I see some rust on it so I would pull it apart and make sure the bushing inside is lubed.
These are very good clutches but from time to time you have to lube that bushing. If you don't then what happens is at full throttle you can get a puck hang up because it will flip over when you dump the throttle. The face can't return fast enough because of the lack of lube and the drag. Then the puck flips and you basically have a jammed clutch.
Pic below:

102c comet doesn't have pucks, it uses fly weights. General rule with most clutches is keep lube as far away from the thing as you can. Comet made/make a dry lube that you can use very sparingly in some situations though. Personally i never put lube on any on my clutches. Pull them apart often and keep them clean and dry.

Oppps -- I completely misread that.
oddozzie is right on the 102c -- they don't have pucks. I just looked at your pic and azzumed it was a 94c.

My concern is the deep grooves on the faces, since you say to use it should I try to sand out the grooves

Looks ok to me.
My oddy clutches have a grooves as well but run fine. They need to be more severe than that to be a problem. Just my opinion.

I don't know. Seem a little deep for my liking. My arctic cat clutches groove up but nothing that severe. If that is OK to run then my grooved clutches just became back up clutches.
I don't think I'd sand them. Would have to remove a lot of material to make a difference.
Might as well run it and let us know how it turns out.
