I got my starter rebuilt and am going to put it back but want too know if I can use any old o-ring where it mounts too the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? ))? Or do I need some super rare metric piece that only some guy on the other side of the planet would stock and of course is discontinued from Honda so it's $20??? I want to install tonight but can wait. I guess.

I would use what ya got as long as it is not one of those thick air cylinder O-rings.
You still want to maintain the distance to ring gear.
One of my machines didn't have one and I didn't notice until had to take it apart. It still worked.

You could also do what we do at work. Cut the o-ring with a razor blade and glue it together with crazy glue. Sometimes we have to make one. You over lap the two ends and cut together so you have the right angle and length. O-ring can not be twisted when you do this. Then glue with crazy glue. Make a jig out of a piece of wood, plastic or even better steel. Drill a hole the size of o-ring and cut jig length ways in half. Then you can lay the o-ring in the groove and glue. Tape it down but not on the glued joint.
