Wow that is a cool catalog. It looks to be a fairly simple design. I have a few cages / down tubes that are bent up pretty good & this is giving me some ideas. The only downside is that that cage is pertinently welded to the chassis.

Has anyone made a one piece cage utilizing the stock mounting points? Is it possible?

I don't believe the lowered cage is welded to the frame. If I read the description correctly, they expected you to cut the forged end pieces out of your existing cage and weld them into the new one. The new cage acted as it's own jig for assembly. It remained bolt on once completed. At least I think that's what I'm reading...

That is what I had originally thought as well. It specifically states in the description that it welds to chassis at the sides and when looking at Nukem's FL350 pics he is not using the side mounts. I thought that he made this cage himself & did not know that there was a kit available, long ago.

I agree it is a bit crazy. That kit would take several hours to install, one roll over and your right back to square one (potentially). I don't see how that cage could be stronger than OEM. I wonder what the kit cost back in 1985 when the catalog was published?

I'll give it a try some day using stock mounting points. :-)

Kinda silly not going to the original mounts? And its a dead tube.

That thing could use a diagonal or two.

That picture shows the cage mounted at the OEM side mounts.... Looks like it is missing the cross bar on the main hoop that the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) bracket would mount to.

The picture that I posted is how the kit was intended to be installed. Modify as needed I guess lol.

I agree that it should have a few diagonal pipes to strengthen it up.
