Post subject:  1 of my current projects: Water Cooled Cylinders :)

So I have this total fascination with the old stadium lite racers and the engines that powered these buggies. The intellect, thought and raw skill required to make these a reality....just mind boggling! I have many things ongoing in the oddy world. Before I strike out to a snowmobile based power plant, I want to know all I can about the 350 based power that won so many races. I've hunted down 3 separate examples of BV's craftsmanship. 3 separate and lineage correct water cooled cylinder conversions. The cylinders not only bring with them the cool water part...but porting that was proven to be successful. I've been working with several well now 2 stroke guys to restore the BV engines, but also bring new examples to life.

The cylinders/engines are: 350cc's, 360cc's and 423cc's.

I wanted to throw a few pics up of the 350cc cylinder that I've replicated with the intent of fine tuning and bringing more to life. The cylinder and head seen in the below pics were machine by me. They are being tested and we'll see what happens next. I guess now that I've covered suspension, it's Engine time :)

I've had a lot of custom stuff made for this project. I had gaskets unlimited cut all kinds of copper head gaskets and cylinder spacers for me. Just as a start

Pics may be a little out of order, but ou get the idea. Water cooled cylinder and head, with internal passages. Lots of porting and very high RPM HP...

Porting map must be very cool indeed, that one pic looks like a good amount of porting was already done.

I'll take one!

Very nice work my friend! Absolutely beautiful welds. Anything you do shows the pride you take in your work. Did you make the head as well?

Thank you very much for the compliment. I originally purchased the head, but soon realized the amount of modification needed so it will work with this set up. I cut about .150 off the base outside of the head gasket area so that it will work with the oring seal. Then I recut the chamber and squish area based on the RPM I intend on running.

After doing this set up, I actually did cut my own head which is currently on my oddy now, and I'm pretty happy with it. This set up is going on a new motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )), the 360cc set up is going on a motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) and the big bore is a totally separate Engine as well. The turbo set up CO is waiting to see is in the works, and is not short on fab or needed creativity.

Cool stuff Meth!

I thought I heard you mention it but don't see it here. I think Nuke-em bought 3 of the original Briggs built Gen IV engines. There are pics on Yellow dog racing of the engines before Nuke em bought them.

I might have some notes for these engines as well, but not sure. I'll take a look.

So I installed this set up over the weekend...and holy poop. I am very happy with how this little Engine screams! Original Power Pros Bespoke pipe. Fully machined Wiseco, Totally customized Rands head, lots of fun. I tuned the 102C a little, purple spring and N1 arms, works up in the 4000 RPMs... 4100 maybe. Need to get my tach hooked up.

Yeah I can understand that but when I look at the water cooled head and water cooled cylinders I made I just cringe when I look at your stuff. I'm a practical guy and my stuff works well. It just don't look sexy like your stuff. I'm a true millwright lol.

Most coo coo in the head people are smart.
My buddy told me to my face several times "that my brain does not work like most peoples".
Maybe he is right. I don't know.
You got OCD and are therefore coo coo in the head according to some. That may be true.
We don't know we are coo coo. That's why we are called coo coo.

FACT: Most coo coo in the head people are smart.

I will see if I can put something up for this weekend. Was gonna do it last Sunday, uhg, Rain all day. Hoping this weekend at least has sunshine even if it's cold. I must say, it is much louder...much. I will need to wear ear plugs under my helmet from now on. It's not DG (lack of silencer loud) but it's close.
