I was wondering what others do to clean up aluminum to make it look new again?

I'm talking Engine cases, cylinders, transmissions, corroded aluminum, etc

Media blast? Wire wheel? Really strong degreaser? Ultra sonic cleaners?

Probably all of the above but I would ditch the wire wheel.

I agree with Can Odd, ditch the wire wheel idea unless you want a grooved effect!

A good polish and a lot of elbow grease is a good way but labor intensive. Any kind of blasting either sand or soda is going to leave the surface rough.

Ditto, no wire wheel. Nothing makes aluminum look funkier than a wire wheel!

There is an aluminum wheel cleaner that the Buick guys (I have a Buick t-type, Aluminum wheels) use that really does work pretty good. I cant remember which one, but it's one of the top/popular brands. Like eagle one or mothers or something.

Copy that, I will not use a wire wheel. I'm going to try a strong degreaser or parts cleaner solution and then finish it off with an aluminum polish. I was hoping for a quicker solution because this is going to take awhile and my arm will likely fall off by the end of it. I have used semichrome polish in the past on aluminum wheels, it is a little pricey compared to the mothers but works really well. Might pick up a buffing wheel kit also for the larger areas.

There is really no way to clean the fins on the cylinders and the hard to reach places? that's why I was hoping there was some kind of media that wouldn't harm the aluminum.

I sand blasted the head and cylinder of my Ody. Once the dirt and crap gets baked into the fins, that's pretty much the only way to clean it up and have it look like new.

I took for granted we were talking about the Engine cases.
