Hey guys,

I searched the forums and couldn’t find this topic so if it has been covered before I apologize.
I wanted to pass on a trick I found on YouTube to remove a rusted on driven clutch from the trans shaft. I can’t take credit for this. I tried everything I could without damaging the driven clutch. I’m installing the Farr Rotax 670 kit and needed to get the drive spacer in place for clutch alignment. I doubt that the driven clutch has ever been off of the machine. I tried penetrating oil, heat, a pulley remover. The pulley remover scared me because I didn’t want to bend the driven pulley and I knew it couldn’t take much force. I found a guy on YouTube that used a harmonic balancer remover. It required tapping the three holes on the pulley to accept a 5/16 -18 bolt. The trick is going in as straight as possible with the tap. I used a screwdriver on the back side of the pulley to keep the shaft from turning and using the harmonic balancer remover the driven clutch came off with little effort. I let the penetrating oil work it’s magic for a few hours before starting the removal. I cleaned up the shaft and lubed it up with grease before reinstalling. One thing to be careful of is with the shaft key. I bent my key the first time I put it on and had to straighten it in my vice. There is not a solid stop on the shaft to keep the key in place. Mine got pushed out of the slot and bent when I put pressure on the assembly when reinstalling it. Anyway, I had the driven clutch off in about 20 minutes once I found this trick.

Note that he used backup nuts on the inside so you don't pull out the threads.

I think hoser was the one to come up with tapping the holes in it so that if you put a bolt in it then it will push the shivs apart so that you can easily put a new belt on.

Not sure of your youboob link but I bet it was someone from this site.

The best way to search this site is to type "one" word in the search box and hit enter.
When the list comes up, there will be another search box there that says "search these threads"
Type "one" word in that and hit enter.
Do this as many times as necessary to narrow it down to what you want.
Common words like Engine, wheel etc will be ignored.
If you put to many words in the search box then you get to many hits.
Also when you get to where you want, look at the very bottom of the link you clicked on. There will be many many similar threads to the one you are in.
