Post subject:  Check valve for fuel line

Once in a blue moon I comment on my homemade check valves that my brother and I run on our machines. I make my own because the Honda ones are expensive and hard to get (I think). Anyways I have not been forth coming with details on this before and some people here have asked, so I will post pics and comments.

Below are a couple of pics on this check valve. It is connected past a "T" that you will have to also make out of pipe fittings. The check valve is made with a 1/8" pipe coupler, custom cut spring, ball bearing and two nipples. There are a couple of important considerations on this that must NOT be violated. 1) The ball bearing must be about the size of that coupler hole. If it is to small then it has no weight. This weight is what the back pressure will be. 2) The spring is custom cut and you probably find that it is only about 3 turns of a spring. It must be smaller than the ball bearing so that the ball don't fall into the spring. It must also be approx the size of the ball bearing so that it does NOT turn over inside the coupler. Spring tension will not be an issue as all it really does is prevent the ball from going all the way up and plugging the outlet hole. 3) When it is all put together you shake it and you MUST here the ball bearing and spring rattle inside. If not take it apart and cut off a bit more on the spring. You do NOT want the spring to hold down the ball bearing, the fuel pressure will lift it off the seat. 4) This is critical -- it MUST hang vertical with the ball bearing at the bottom.

File comment: Here you can see the check valve installed on the death machine. Unfortunately you can not see the "T" in the fuel line but I don't really see this as an issue. It's a basic setup.
