Here is some info I got on my computer. It was all taken from various threads on our site here.
There are some links as well.
Piston weights:Here are some piston weights, all FL350R
Honda/Art 80mm: 11.8 oz
chucklenuts at aftershot motorspurts/Wossner 82.5mm: 11.7 oz
Wiseco 80mm with chucklenuts at aftershot motorspurts mods 12.8 oz
Wiseco 81.5mm: 14.2 oz
Wiseco 82mm: 14.68 oz
Not only is lighter better for power by reducing reciprocating mass, keeping the weight close to the original reduces vibration. The counter balancer was designed to match up to the original piston weight.
Rocket: Just a little FYI, I've been reading that the new pistons weigh more, and while I was in the market for a new one, I did a little checking. I called Wiseco and talked to there tech dept.
and I was told that they changed design in 2007 and no longer made the lightweight piston.
So I just ordered a new one and planned on just machining it down to match my old lightweight one.
Old design piston weighed 343.8 grams
New design piston weighs 413.6 grams
After all the machining to the piston I was only able to get it down to 367.7 grams.
The wrist pins are also more new 50.5 grams, old 48.5 grams
Hoser: IMO they have always been a sorry excuse for a piston they are "forged" alright complete forgery not many know it but the same master company that owns wiseco also owns about every piston mfg on the planet that makes non OEM pistons and even some OEM pistons once they had their monopoly running is when they cut the machining then raised the prices on pistons about 40% now that everything is global who you going to call, I was asking this when bush made the phrase "global economy" popular, think the company behind the monopoly was "Dover Industries" ???? Might have changed hands by now but at one time they owned Carillo Rods, ProX, JE, Vertex , ART.
Think the prices has increased by 50% since fall of 2008
On my list of things to do I want to make a jig for the drill press so I can drill the holes in the wiseco pistons above the pin like wiseco use to do it would just be a round hole as big as I dare to go to match the diameter of the hole wiseco machined it won’t be the same oblong hole wiseco machined or be as light but will be lighter than delivered also will look at drilling a hole or dimple below the pin and along side the pin.
