I keyed that inside race so that it can't spin.
I doubt that was the issue anyway but eliminated one possible issue.
It must be creating heat because of poor tooth mesh but not sure.
I'm gona run it until it blows up. I'm done with it.
Gearbox is together now and I'll install it tonight.
It's raining here at the moment so it may be a day or two before I can test it.

A gear with needle bearing (interference fit) in it.
The deep blue you see on that shaft was caused by the initial explosion by previous owner.

""the shaft with an inside race"" wouldn't it be better as a push on no slip as
there is a bearing in the AB gear doing the spinning.

CO The Heating issue.

Are you using a Stock OEM Gasket or if you have made a CO gasket or Gasket goo there could be not enough
lateral movement in box IE to much squish not allowing for expansion now there could be a heat issue.
This is something that BuggBaz mentioned as were discussing it other day.

I thought I would suggest that.

OH my. I didn't think about that.
I did make a CO gasket. I bought gasket material at the local NAPA store.
The material I bought is 1/32" (.030") rubber fiber material.
Do you know stock gasket thickness ??

You're right but I goofed when I started this.
I was going to make it an interference fit but I measured that inside race and then cut the shaft the same size. I goofed.
I'm old now and my mind don't work well anymore and just fumble in the dark and get dirty.

Edit: Unfortunately the gearbox it back together and in the machine now.

Well I got back from the test ride.
Failure !!

LMAO though. I went about 1.5km up the Sowaqua road and I felt a sudden drop in power and like the rear brakes came on. I knew right away and pulled over.
When I got out to check the transmission it was not running hot but I saw smoke coming out of the filler plug breather. It was like an Indian at a pow wow sending smoke signals to the other tribes. It was funny actually, little rings of smoke.
Luckily it went into neutral. I coasted it all the way back to the truck. The roads around here a steep. I made it to within 100 ft of the truck. I thought I would try to start it up and drive it onto the trailer and was successful. It ran but it did not sound good.
At this point I'm loving it because now I will know what it is when I take it apart.
My best guess is that the full compliment needle bearing piled up. I say that because when I pushed the buggy into the shop I could here the tell tail sign of two gears out of mesh.
I know for a fact it's not any other bearing because it coasted for 1.5 km with no issues.
I'll report either late tonight or tomorrow when it will be out of the machine and apart.
