Hey everyone,

Im new to the forum but have been reading through posts for a while. I thought I would ask your thoughts on needing a rebuild. I bought an oddy last year in the fall and want to take it out soon, but going through things I did a Engine compression test after running for 15 minutes and found that I only have 70 PSI. I just bought a second oddy and this one has 80 PSI after running for 10 minutes. (this second oddy came with an additional blown Engine that apparently was rebuilt and then died the same day) It dosent seem like much to me as I thought 138 PSI was stock If I remember reading that right. So how long do you think it will take before they fail? How low do you normally let it get before its time for a rebuild? Or would just a top end rebuild be in order?

Jacob

Does your compression test gauge have a shrader valve in the end of the hose which screws into the cylinder head? Are you holding the throttle wide open during the test? If the answer is YES to both of those questions then the motors have low compression.

I should mention that both are FL350 engines. It screws into the cylinder head and has a air hose quick connect to the gauge. Its a harbor freight gauge set.
I did not check if there is a valve on the end, but you have to press the gauge button to release the pressure. I did not open the throttle, I will try that when i get back from work when i have a minute.

Should the Engine be hot? I thought it was supposed to be, and a buddy of mine said it should be cold for a compression check.....

If you don't have a valve in the end of the hose which screws into the Engine, you can more-or-less toss that gauge.

Measure hot and cold. The difference should not be big. If it is, the Engine is getting tired.
