Does anyone have a suggestion the CV boots?
The inside gets pretty tight at full extension, wondering if anyone has found a bit longer boot? I need to change inners and outers, just time to service before it's too late

Did you take the measurements on your old boot and compare it to the pdf specs ??
Find it hard to believe not even one of those is close.
Not likely the search function on that site would accurately select a boot from a 1989 machine.

I believe Empi is what I have on now and they seem to be pretty tight at full droop, I was looking to try something else, I found some universal called CVS-22 that seemed would be perfect but it seems you can only get them in Australia, who would have thought.
I ordered 2 Flex boot FB3000 from Amazon, a little pricey at $20 each but they seem a little longer and more flexible than the Empi's.
I should have them Saturday and will let you all know what I think.
they are returnable, if I don't like the looks of them I can make a trip to pacific customs or Kartek and have them order some, the Empi warehouse isn't far from me but they won't sell direct
here is a link to the CVS boot

There are a couple of problems with cv boots.

1) I had inboard brakes on my formula car and the heat from the rotor would swell up the boot like a balloon. Sometimes it would pop. The grease would then fly out and I would lose the cv before the race was over sometimes. The cure was to use a WD40 can straw. You slipped it between the axle and the boot. The tie held it all in place. This allowed the pressure to bleed out. Obviously we don't have that issue here.

2) The boots would occasionally get hit with something (a rock ??) and would tear open.
In my opinion off road atv boots need to be protected from rocks, sticks etc. Could these boots be covered with a leather apron ?? Tied on with ty-wraps ?? The leather could be held together with rivets. Stub end out of coarse.

Tie a leather shield direct to the A arms with ty-wraps ??

I actually preferred the CVS-22 but the only place I found them was in Australia, maybe our down under members would like to check them out?

I run pretty much sand only, why do anything else :-)
Rocks, there is an area from the store to the washes that has some rocks that were laid down by the railroad, they are more gravel, nothing to be concerned with and it amounts to about 1% of my riding time, there are zero rocks at Glamis, there are a few at Dumont but only in the flats, I try to stay out of that area.
Sticks, not so much, I try to stay out of the bushes.
I can see if doing alot of riding like you that some additional protection would be a good idea.

I think either of those would work, I figured the 22 have more con volutes so less stress. I did not realize how much they could stretch, if you have the stretch tool you don't even need to disassemble the CV from the axle.

Boots received Saturday installed sunday, here are my first impressions, these are the Flex Boot FB3000 I believe is the P/N:
At the point where they will be cut they are approximately 1/4" longer just sitting, they appear to be possibly black silicone compared the the Empi rubber, they are more stretchy.
The 2 items I notice that I don't especially like is that the fitment into the grooves on the axle and the CV are not as good as the purpose made boots and the clamps are not what I consider to be the basic CV clamps that you would pull through, fold over and crimp, these are more of the single use hose clamp the you wrap around make a tight as possible where some serations fit into holes on the clamp and than do the final tightening with a "pinch clamp pliers".

I'll follow up with pictures, everyone likes pictures

So I'm satisfied with the outcome, they seem to have more room to flex so not stretching the rubber so much.
I'll report back on this periodically, riding season doesn't start here until end of October.

One other thing, the axle side is very tight to slide on if you try it dry, a little shot of WD-40 and it glides on with little effort, I just hope I removed enough and it drys out so not to make it leak.

I see why you wanted a little more flex.
Hope they hold up. I like the look
I did put a link in pilot parts.
Thanks.

I think I found some new boots for the rear ball joint. I post up once I get them.

I rotated your pic

Thank you,
So far after 31 years the ball joint boot is holding up well but once I see what you found I'll be sure to get a couple and change them out either when I see a problem or have it apart.
I don't know why only the one was rotated, the other pics taken with the phone in the same orientation.
