Is it possible to remove outer CV assembly on these axles?

Yes it is. Guys who install long travel axels do it. I believe that there is a cir clip on the axle, inside the outer. There are some threads on how to remove on this site. I recall someone making a pipe with ears on it, with the inner removed and holding the axle with the outer down, they slid the pipe over the axle and hit the ears knocking the outer off. I have never doneit.

Why do you want to remove yours?

I believe in my long travel post I talk about the tool I used, if you are lucky uoi can also use a punch but I can tell you mine were stuck on pretty good.
I recently watched a rockey mountain ATV video in axle rebuilds and they briefly went over the process using a punch.
you can text me if you need me to send a picture of the tool I made I'm sure it's around somewhere 951-691-3066

Will be building long travel soon. Have some rough frozen up outside CVS was gonna try to break free. Have several replacement cages balls and inner splined pieces. Also have set of Farr axles for long travel to put them on. Got them soaking now

Get that band off before you try to drive the outer off.

Is that rust causing the color?

It’s just a snap ring that holds the axle shaft in.

I could not figure out how to get the bearing raceway out...

a piece of heavy wall tubing that goes over the axle and contact those nubs on the center hub, weld on a heavy piece steel bar stock, hold the axle in a vice with soft jaws and give that a whack with a sledge, you need to hold the axle tight or the energy you use to knock the hub off will be absorbed in moving the axle.

For the CV race removal.
After you get axle out turn the race as far as you can to one side then remove the ball bearing and work your way around removing all balls and then it will come out.
With the axle in the race will not rotate far enough to get one out. That is what holds them in. The axle hitting the cup keeps it from tilting far enough.
Now try to log which ball comes from what hole and put back where it was removed from. Also make sure the race is clocked to the cup.

If your installing a rebuild kit than no big deal.

If you want to just clean and regrease with out taking the race out clean and then install grease in the shaft hole, remove c- clip from axle. Use axle and insert slowly into cv. Then remove and add more grease untill all lubed up. As you get grease from all ball area use axle shaft and rotate the CV and then install more grease and plunge the axle shaft untill you fell good about the lube. Then install c clip and install shaft. Then grease up the rest and put boot on.

I thought I posted a video on this. I'll see if I can dig up.
