I was planning on making a Salsbury/Powerbloc clutch.
Basically I have an original oddy Salsbury drive clutch and a Powerbloc clutch that came with a machine that I bought years ago. Unfortunately the Powerbloc has the wrong offset for an oddy and the original Salsbury it junk.
The idea is to use the Salsbury bottom end and the Powerbloc top end with the pucks.
Tonight I spent some time making a fake chineseum crank shaft taper end so that I could mount the shivs in the lathe. So far so good. Pics below.
Then I noticed the shaft on the Powerbloc is 1" dia and if I turn down the shaft on the Salsbury to that size then I will only have a .130" wall left. I measured it with some snap gauges. Pics below.
Visions of another dyno style clutch explosion were dancing in my head.

I hear ATV Racing has a large order in with CVTech/Powerbloc for FL400 clutches, but no ETA on shipment/orders. You might give CVTech a call for 350.

The more I think about this project the more I think it must be abandoned.
The wall thickness will be too thin on the stem and there may be another clutch explosion. Then we will be deep in the bush and a long way from the truck. Not good.
I just wanted this for a spare anyways and since both were junk there was no loss.
What I might do just for fun is re-face the shivs since they all have grooves and uneven wear. Not likely I will be able to ever use them but it would be fun to do anyways. Plus I have already made a taper shaft to mount the clutches in the lathe.
So in short, this project has ended and will be taken off the winter list.

Do you think that was a pilot drive unit?

I need a good cap and pucks and even the movable. My fixed face is pretty good. Sorry I don't any 350 stuff to trade.

I have no clue what that unit is actually from.
All I know is that it was on a machine that I bought and it ate up a belt in minutes because the offset is .300 off from where it needs to be.
Also this unit appears to be old school. The cap has no "D", it's a round hole. The pucks each have seven weights and look good to me. It has a black 3" spring. Cap is 5 5/8" dia.
I can take more pics and measurements if you need them.
