It costs me $50 for two stroke oil and AVGAS every time I take out one of my FL350's.
We always go in two's so that's $100 for me every time  .

Well don't worry -- you still have your whole life ahead of you. At some point in your life you will have the money for something you really want, like one of these buggies. Just stay away from dope. Alcohol too if you can. If you think buggies are expensive just wait until you start drinking. Everything in life costs money and has costs -- believe it. I don't drink because I have a high school annual full of dead guys. My friends got killed drinking and driving. There are many. I'm nearing the end of my life. I'm 61 soon but I had to wait a life time for my buggies.
CO

You have shown a lot of initiative. You buy and sell go-carts etc. Good on you.
Just remember how hard you had to work for that money. Think about that your whole life every time you reach into your wallet. Your decision will now be easier. If you do that you wouldn't be spending your money on dope or drink.
I wish I lived closer -- I would help you rebuild that machine. It needs work.

Maybe ask your dad for help. I see me there. My dad helped only when I ask. Since your. 15, I will not ask where what town your live in. Some times when we now where one lives one who reads can swing by and help. Again your age would require a parents involvement.
That being said I say keep working on it there is a ton of help here. It will be worth it in the long run. The experience you gain here will last a life time. If you plan on keeping it that is. If your looking for help to get running and sale most will just scan over. Look at the home page for learning about two stoke operations and the two stroke cycle. More close up pics of the Engine etc also helps.
Richard.
Either way good luck and thanks for posting.

Lot of good advise.

When I was 12 or so I saw my first odyssey. I recall it was yellow, Wanted one for years. Kinda forgot about them as life got busy then I saw the Pilot on the showroom floor. I knew then Someday I would have one. Years later and I finally owned one. I will keep it until I die. You are only 15 and have a FL250, I envy you. Keep in mind that is not a brigs and straton Engine. A FL250 is not a go Kart! You are talking old school 2 cycle. Honda built a strong machine unlike the crap for sale today, with plastic pop it rivets and zip ties holding it together. Polaris must buy zip ties by the truck load.

If you think you are just going to jump in and ride you are wrong. Part of the fun of owning a vintage machine is working on it. Not just working on it, but learning about it and understanding it. In my opinion they are unique machines that are built well and have stood the test of time. I started with a fl250 1977 and completely rebuilt it. Still have it and I also own 2 FL400s. One I try to keep shinny and the other I ride hard. If your heart is in it, try to keep it and enjoy the process of getting her running well. If you want to make a buck then post it for sale and see what you can get.

Also reread the advise above the guys took time to give you. It will serve you well young man.

Yes thanks for all the advice.. I read it all, I was trying to respond last night but it wouldn't let me....
I'm gonna go through with it and order tons of parts. Im going to order new piston kit, flywheel and clutch puller, crank bearings and seals, gasket kit, belts, and brake pads
Its gonna cost close to 300

Recommend you have the cylinder machined before you buy the piston.

Also do a leak down test before you tear the Engine apart, and after rebuild.

Read as much as you can on this site.

Get a manual and read it.

I'm going to get it bored. Why would I need to do a leak down test if I'm rebuilding it

You ALWAYS do that to a two stroke. Even if you blow it up.
The reason is that it will tell you if your seals on the crank are still good.
Once you open it up you're screwed and now don't know if the seals are still ok. Now you'll also have to buy seals because you're not sure.
It's possible one of your crank seals are leaking and that's why you had an Engine run away.

How do you know it needs a piston ??
You might be wasting valuable money. Did you do a compression check yet ??

Is that with the throttle wide open ??
When you do a compression check the throttle must be held open.
If you got 105 then yes it's time for a rebuild. It's also possible you only need rings and that's only $35 approx.

Do the hose that goes into the bottom puts some fuel in there to lube it?

Good question.

If you are referring to the hose from the fuel pump to the crankcase. the answer is no.

As the piston moves up and down it creates a pulse. This pulse is transferred through the hose to the pump, causing a diaphragm to pulse up and down - causing suction of fuel from the fuel tank to the carburetor. The 3 way valve regulates the fuel to the carb, along with the float and valve in the carb bowel - and allows the excess fuel to return to the tank.

Now imagine the hose is loose on the barb of the crank case. Pressure would be lost and less or no fuel would flow.

What if there is crap in the pickup lines inside the tank and fuel cannot flow to the pump.

What if the diaphragm is brittle and cracked. The fuel pump will not work properly.

Food for thought.

Posting pictures of your machine will help others see what you have and make recommendations.

We love pictures. And you can not take anything personally!

Absolutely !!
ANY air leak is deadly to a two stroke.

You might want to ok anything you do with this machine with your parents BEFORE you start spending money on it. Also they may be able to help you with mechanical.
We don't know your situation with regards to skills, tooling, etc.
It's obvious you don't have a lot of two stroke experience but you seem to really want this thing and have a hobby you like. Welcome to the club. The learning curve will be steep. You will learn your whole life -- believe it. If you hate school you're now in for a rude surprise.

Only if you have a blown crank seal.
