I have joined the illustrious and exclusive club of FL350 owners :-) Now I can have the FL250 down for work and still have something to have fun with (and vise versa)

I was able to pick up a 350 in decent shape at a decent price and not too far of a drive. It seems to be in pretty good mechanical condition, starts and runs good. One thing I have noticed though is at idle, the drive clutch makes a clanking noise. Once the RPMs get a little above base idle, the noise goes away. Engagement is somewhat abrupt but I'm assuming that is normal. I did put a new belt on it.

Is the drive clutch shot or are there parts in it that wear out that can be simply and inexpensively replaced?

Thanks!

I would pull the clutch and inspect and clean it.
If it is the original Salsbury I bet my rent money it's worn out.

Yeah it looks about the same condition as the rest of the buggy so I assume it's the original. If it's worn out, what's the preferred replacement? The 102C? Will that work with the stock driven or would that need to be replaced to match up with the 102C?

The Comet 94C is the easiest option, direct swap. No changes are required and it works great.
The 102C is a better clutch, but only really worth it if you plan on doing a lot of power mods as it will allow you to tune it for best performance.

I put a 94c onto my FL250 and it's fairly easy to take apart and tune with puck weights and spring preload. I took a gander at how to adjust the tune on the 102c and it seems much more involved, though more fine tunable and it definitely looks like a more beefy unit. I'll probably go with the 94c for now...

I don't plan on doing too much to this Engine as far as performance. I've been doing some research and I think the airbox mod and maybe a slightly larger carb to match is all I'm going to do in the near term

The guy I bought this machine from threw in a Rotax 583 and mount plate for a song. I'd probably drop that in before I put too much into the 350.
