Hey all... long time lurker, first time poster. Just picked up an '89 pilot! Always wanted one since they first came out (yes, Im that old) and finally found one. Everything is super solid.. only challenge is the fuel return seems broken. Not sure exactly how to fix it. Doesnt look like anything is cracked/broken... just wont stay seated. Thoughts? Just use some RTV?

I’ve only ever owned odyssey’s, so take it for what it’s worth, but does it twist into place?

Never seen one come apart before. I believe that is a one way valve, to stop fuel from back flowing if tipped over. RTV might not be the best choice. I would look for a clear bonding glue, maybe even an epoxy. Make sure it is rated for fuel contact. I would also remove it from the hose and gas tank and clean it very well with some degreaser before gluing. Be careful with the gasket so you can reuse it.

Why2 hose clamps? Or is that just the clamp from the 3 way valve?

Might be a good time to drain the fuel tank and inspect. Clean the top of the fuel tank before you begin. Don’t want that dirt in your tank.

Take your time when working on your machine. They are old school 2 cycle and many parts are hard to get. Don’t be a caveman. Get a bigger hammer does not apply to these machines. Make sure you have and read the service manual.

Finally got back to it... looks like there never was any type of locking tab or anything... Originally either glued or just pressed in. Either way, a touch of JB weld and will be back in business.

Pretty sure that is suppose to be a check valve/vent so when your upside down fuel does not run out of the tank. Looking at the DIRT inside the valve the gas tank will need a good cleaning and the fuel filter will need replaced. Remove the float bowl from the bottom of the carb and see what is in the bottom. Post as found pics.

I would remove the gas filter and back flush it, put your finger over the inlet side, spray carb cleaner in the outlet side, cover with your thumb and shake it up good, remove your finger from the inlet side and let it pour out on a paper towel to see what comes out.

I have cleaned/flushed used fuel filters and reused many times on all applications with no ill affects, especially the OEM filters, just make sure when you think you have it cleaned by shaking run a quart of gas through the outlet to back flush it really good then a few cups of gas through the inlet side to see what is coming out the filter ensuring its clean. Do not blow out with compressed air!!! Put a hose on it and blowing through by mouth is ok and should not damage anything.

Check to see if that check valve is still available from Honda. That round disc might have been the check valve diaphragm and not a gasket?

The gas tank has a drain plug shake up the Pilot to stir up the gas and drain into a pan show us how much dirt came out.
