Dear guys, my name is Jose and I just bought an FL400R 1990. I live in Barcelona but bought the Pilot in Italy and a transporter brought it home. Everything runs nice but the headlights are not working. Switch at the steering works because rear light, brake light and reverse light works perfect.

I took the bulbes out of the headlights and they look fine, just a bit of rust on the bulb holder. My question is: Is there a particular fuse for the headlights? has anyone face a similar problem?

Thanks for any advise.

I would suggest checking the Hi/Low Dimmer switch. It is only used for headlights.
Use a multimeter to check for voltage or resistance through the switch. Make sure the power is turned off if checking resistance.

Welcome new guy.
You may not have a FL400 Pilot manual.
You can get a free pdf download here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B851Fd ... YgfquuOtTw

CO

Edit: I noticed that I could not find the download button in that site for the manual but at least you can view it.
I wonder if the site poster removed that download button ??
CO

Also you can go to service Honda https://www.servicehonda.com/error/notf ... rts/lookup
Click on the box that says "Factory Parts" and then put in the part number to see if the part is still available from Honda.
CO

Edit again: Below is a wiring diagram for the Pilot. Sorry I don't have a color diagram for this machine only for the FL350.

Thank you guys, I had no time to take a look closely, ATM i just dismount the headlights and cleaned them and Im waiting for someone with a multimeter to check if power arrives to the bulbs. If the fuse is the same as the brake, rear and reverse light, must be ok as they all work properly.

Ill keep you guys posted on the matter. Thanks again for the welcome.

FYI you have a 90.
The wiring diagram posted is an 89.
You will have a four fuse holder.
It goes from battery to fuse to ignition switch to headlight switch to low/high switch then out to lights.

Good luck.

I would not open the wheel either unless need be.
I would check you voltage under the front fenders first then work your way back. You can remove the black cover on the steering shaft and get at all the harness plugs to test key switch and steering wheel switches.

Maybe get yourself a manual to help if it's not a simple item.

I review your post and and can send you to the right place to fix or check first
Since you said you rear light and brake light work. You fuse is good and the lighting switch is getting power. Under the front fender is your next check. With the light switch and ignition switch on. Turn dimmer switch to low beam (LO) Check with volt meter between (G) and (W, white). If nothing switch to (HI) or high beam and and check between (G) and (BU, blue). If nothing move to column harness under steering wheel. Check plug connections there. Here will need to find a ground ( chassis ground) to hook tester to and recheck W and BU. If good go back to under fender and use chassis ground to check W and BU. You may have lost G in the harness. If still nothing it's in the wheel between (TL) and and dimmer switch outputs. May be bad switch. Not likely unless some added extra light and Burt up switch.
Adnoh.

I had to edit this, for some reason Adnoh was changed to Admin. I am not an Admin.

FYI the two fuses your dealing with is the 15 amp after in switch and the 20 amp bat to ignition switch.
If you pull the 15 amp the rear light should go out.

In the pic fuses are 1 and 3 top to bottom.

Just to be sure your reverse light does work, correct.

Welcome to the site, nice find. Looking at the silencer its a 1990

Start at the headlights and trace the wires back to the main wiring harness make sure they are plugged in, if they are unplug and check voltage there and check the connections for corrosion.

If you can share more detail pictures of your Pilot so we can judge the use and abuse that might lead to future problems. From what I can see its a clean Pilot and if those are the original tires its a low hour Pilot.
