I've got Artic Cat clutches. The drive clutches, main and spare have scrapes/gouges in the "towers" where the inner part of the triangular "thingie" rides up and down. Some of the gouges are so deep that they are causing binding. I have taken them apart and smoothed things up. Is there a better way to keep the problem from occuring? Are there some "rollers" instead of the "sliders"? Thanks for any ideas.

Got pictures?

The main problem I think is (without laying hands on the parts) is the dirt getting
into them the Comet 102 and 108 clutches suffer from the same problem, is there
any way you can make a belt guard that is sealed like the Polaris quad then install
a electric blower to blow clean air into the guard to keep it cool.

The clutches are good clutches but they were never intended to be used in the
dirt, on a snowmobile it is usually clean under the hood so clean that sleds never
use to use air filters on their engines...

Hey Jerry,

There are a few companys that offer roller conversions for the drive clutch but I can't remember if you have a 3 or 4 cams, I think it's a nine tower clutch but can't remember! (9 tower would be nine screws on the cover plate!)

Hoser is right about the dirt thing and I think the roller is the best route but at a cost.

A complete roller 4 cam Comet clutch is over $700.00 Prolly worth it but that initial cost is hard to swallow!

I already cleaned them up and polished them. Packed away the spare and installed the other one, so pics won't show anything.

It clearly looks like dirt/sand is the culprit, the gouges look like grains of sand got in between and traveled up and down a few times.

Mine are the nine tower, with the triangle set-up. Yikes, 700 hundred bucks for a roller clutch, but then I probably wouldn't need a spare for when the first one is down, and the cost of two of them is about that amount.

You can get a roller clutch off of ebay for a lot less than $700...

But I don't think a standard roller clutch will solve your problems....

As moskito pointed out a while back, the Arctic Cat roller clutches are not designed to be run in sand or dirty conditions.

Solution - AAEN (and others I assume) make replacement rollers and ramps out of hardend steel.
I have purchased one of these kits used off of ebay for around $120
(I have yet to install and test it)

I belive moskito also runs one of these on his desert car.
He should be able to answer any questions you might have about them.

GoodLuck

Yeah, drive clutch is where I'm having problems with wear/scraping. As said before, these are not designed to use in dirty conditions.

Anyone have a link for the AAEN??

Does anybody know where to buy the covers for the comet 102c clutches?
I have a cover on my curent 102c but would like to have a source for the future.

Well at least you (FL670R) didn't call hoser an asshole and say he is up to his same old sh!t when he pointed out a simple error!

Whew!

I was begining to think the entire free world would dog pile on the hoser any time he countered someone elses opinion, whether it be right, wrong , or indifferent.
