I have heard that you can determine the year model of an Odyssey by it's serial numer on the frame. However, I have found no where that tells you what the trick to that is. I just bought several Odysseys (presumbly 80-84 models), exact year unknown, and this info would be be of benefit if someone can tell me what the trick is.

Thanks in advance!

The Clymer manual has the complete serial number/year breakdown. Unfortunately I do not have my clymer manual handy at the moment....

Maybe tomorrow.

I forget where i got that list. maybe from the guy i bought my fl250 from. not sure but from the bikes i've checked the serial numbers always seem to fit.

just to clarify this is the serial nymber on the rear of the frame, right behinf the rear brake caliper.

looked at my fl250 and the number is FL250 1000954. which fits the list and mine is yellow fenders, only two wire from mag, i'm sure its a 77.

i guess this means mine was the 954 built.

it would be cool to develope a list.

Fl250 owners. please check your serial number and post back if its a fit.

The number on the one I just finished building yesterday is TB0400BC403654...... I assume then that from the list you posted that it is a 1981 model??????? With no offense to anyone... I scoured the Clymer manual and found no hint as to serial numbers...... but with 186 pages to mull through, perhaps I missed it???

Thank you so much for your input!!!!!!

BTW, I will check the other 3 Odysseys I have and report back whether or not they correspond to the list given by rmesser....But it looks like rmesser might have a positive lead here on identifying the year models!

I know I've read somewhere before what year Honda switched from using points on the Odysseys to using the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) (although I don't remember the details), as well as being able to (partially) identify the year model by the decals on the frame, as well as the bolt pattern on the hubs being a partial identification (3 or 4 bolt???) as well as the color of the wheels being a hint (siver or gold). If someone knows this information, I would appreciate you posting it for everyone..... I'm sure everyone else would appreciate the information too!

From my experience, most people don't know what the h*ll they have. It would probably be a great thing for this forum, and the people visiting it, to be able to make a positive identification of what year of Odyssey they actually have.... Heck, I know it would be a valuable resource for me......

Again, my utmost appreciation for your help and assitance.....

Whammo
