Back to old school stuff. Has anyone had any success mounting a 36 mm carb to an FL250 Engine using the stock boot or have you used something else?

Also If anyone is interested I have a few 250 and pilot parts I need to sell.

FL250:
1. stock CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) motor-runs, but could use crank bearings (I have them and they will go with the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? ))) $200.00 plus shipping.
2. stock exhaust, minus the spark arrestor insert(decent shape) $40.00 plus shipping
3. stock driven clutch $25.00
4. stock seat. floor pan has a few rust holes, and it needs recovered. $80.00 plus shipping

Pilot
Belt stock honda $65.00.

I don't think you are going to get that 36mm carb into that 28mm manifold. At least not without a helluva fight. Intake might split it open before it goes in there. You might try a stock 32mm FL350 carb. I have seen people cram those in there. Why do you need to go so big on the carb? I'm not sure if anyone still makes a bigger 2 bolt intake for the 250, but if you bought one of those aftermarket reed block intakes, they have the larger intake for a big carb. They run like $150 I think though.

Does your intake have 2 bolts or 4? If it has a 2 bolt intake it is a factory FL250 cylinder, if it has 4 bolts it is an old CR250 Ellsinore cylinder. I see those on Ebay sometimes and some of the Ellsinore intakes fit the bigger carbs. If you have an FL cylinder, you might try buying a 4 bolt intake, drill it for the 2 bolt pattern and then try and port match the FL cylinder to the CR gasket. I never tried it, but that might work if you are lucky. Here are a couple of CR intakes on Ebay right now:

Both of those eBay auctions are for the '73-'74 CR250 intake manifold so if you have the matching cylinder it would work.

I forgot to mention I have seen adaptor plates made out of aluminum plate that adapt the CR intake to the FL cylinder. I'm sure you have the ability to make one if you can't find nothin better to do :-)

I took a one inch thick piece of aluminum and drilled it to bolt on the FL jug. Ported it from oval to round on either end and used a mikuni snowmobile flange on mine. After you do that you can enlarge the intake on the FL jug, just leave enough room for the gasket to seal. The intakes are very small on them. Ive had good luck widening the intake port windows too after fitting the larger carb. leave the bridge alone. try to keep it straight and the same volume through the intake tract.

That is a pretty sweet looking intake setup for a FL250, but this one here used to breath OK. Some of the other 250 race guys didn't like it to much, but it felt good to open throttle on it, and it was one of my favorites in the good old days:

Same as the one on the Engine above with a different head. They were 82-84 Kawi KX250 jugs grafted onto FL250 case. I had 3 of those engines at one time. They were built by Ed at Triple E a time a long time ago. They made good power but tended to grenade every once in a while. The bottom ends did not like the RPM's that cylinder would produce.

Bill, is it possible to bolt a 76 cr250 jug on a fl250? or do you know what differences there are between the 73/74 and the 76 jugs? I know the it uses studs instead of bolts and appears to have a boost port.

I dunno. A pic of the jug would help. I think the 76 jugs had mounting flanges at the bottom like FL350 cylinders and if that is the case, it would not be a bolt on deal and the cases would probably need to be modified to put it on there.

I don't know who H & S was. I got that intake with some parts I bought one time. Here is a pic of the boot. I have a cd somewhere with a lot of pics of my old 250 stuff, but can't find it right now.

I think they might have been 30.00 ?don't really remember.I think i still may have one and the boot,i would have to dig around and see.A phone call to Sara at EEE would tell all.I had bought one from them probably around 2 years ago or so.The boot though i do not think would fit a 36mm carb but with a little stretch or maybe there is another boot they offer. If i remember correctly the manifold is for the exchange between makuni and kiehin carbs or just larger carbs in general.I could give her a call and see or anyone could for that matter.I havent spoke with her for ages,so maybe i'll call anyway. If i can find it i will post pics. tim

On the manifold I think the parts number is like VM34 = 34mm VM36 = 36mm VM38 = 38mm
