Post subject:  CV Boots

I'm starting to notice that all four of my cv boots are leaking a little bit of grease from the drive shaft band after every ride. I'll post some pics tomorrow... I think its time I service the drive shafts and install new boots all around.

Question: Are OEM Honda boots still available? If so, where can I by them? The local Honda dealership laughed at me when I asked them if they could order me new boots. Has anyone ever used CV boots from Team Industries?? Good or bad to use? www.team-ind.com

Called Service Honda today. The outer CV boots are discontinued. They do have the inner boots in stock. Anyone know where else to find oem outer boots? Any feedback about team industries aftermarket cv boots?

I've ordered 3 sets of each of these for our 3 pilots, haven't installed them yet, but they appear to be identical to the ones posted here and are half the price. Nice quality, should be a no brainer to install.

Your going to change them because of the grease leaking as shown in the pics?

That's part of the reason. The other reason I want to take them apart is because I've never taken the cv's apart since I've owned the pilot. Do you think I should silicone the cv's up and leave them alone?

What looks to me that is happening is their is too much air in the boot so when you ride and they warm up the pressure builds and it weeps out some of the CV grease, got any pics of the bands I cant tell if they are the factory bands or not.

Any signs of the boots cracking look in the lower parts of the pleats of the boot that's where they will crack first, if not I would leave them alone except for taking it for a ride to get some heat build up in the CV boots then I would disconnect one of the bands and take a small DULL screwdriver and slip it between the boot and axle to balance the air pressure, you don't want more in and out, you don't want less inside than outside, just a equal balance, if you let out too much you will know when the CV cools it will collapse.

Nothing wrong with removing them and changing the grease either just make sure to get some quality CV grease with moly in it when you repack.

Where they crack first, look close.

Hoser:

I see what your saying about grease coming out to unequal pressure in the boot. I'll look at the boots again and post some better pics, if possible. My worry is that I've owned the pilot for three or four months now and I'm worried the previous owner never paid attention to the boots leaking grease. The grease on the suspension link seems like it's been building up for a while.

Question: How do you loosen the bands for the boots?
