I was assembling my FL350 bottom end this weekend and after putting the bearings on the crank that I got from Randy at Odyssey Salvage, I noticed that the large bearing was really noisy. The small one was nice and quite when I spun it. So I dug through my stash of parts and found a new Honda large crank bearing put that one on and it was quiet also. According to the manual there are no measured specifications, it just says if the bearing is noisy to replace it. I then found an old Honda bearing from a previous re-build and it was as quiet as the new Honda bearing. I have two new sets of the SKF large bearings from Randy and they both are really noisy and seem to be much sloppier than even the old used Honda bearing.

There is such a noticeable difference between the two it makes me uncomfortable to spend all of this time and money to have a lower end meltdown, but the bearings are not cheap either.

Has anyone run into this before. Should I still use those bearing or do you think that I would be buying myself a problem?

Comments?

Call and run it by Randy..

Most crank bearings have a C3 clearance, they are slightly looser than a normal bearing to allow for expansion when they heat up, how much looser I cant tell you.
