It is a soft metal. To make mine work for my twin carb I used the stock honda cable, let it go back towards the Engine as possible. Bought a snowmobile throttle cable kit - the kits that hook both carbs in to one y-block. Carefully filed the pilot lead pellet end on the cable to fit into the sled y block connector. I've tried on other projects to cut off the cable end and remake the soft metal/lead metal end to have a better fit but have not been successful. I've tried a quick dab with a mig welder, solder, braze etc. There are tools at diesel fuel pump shops that can crimp a led pellet to a stranded cable (to prevent people from opening the pump up) but I don't know how reliable something like this would be in a throttle cable application.

You ready for a ride before the trails close?

Thx for the info guys... I am still sorting things out...
I wish I were ready to ride King but just not complete yet...
I started the machine on stands and throttled it up and down and found that my Engine needs
some support... under load (brakes on) with heavy throttle the Engine is twisting too much and it will shorten my belt life... but I am much closer than I thought I would be at this point...
Your chomping at the bit to toast my 580 arent you King...
Regards

I kept the stock Rotax cable intact. I shortened the Odyssey cable to go between my foot pedal and the Rotax cable.
I made up small steel pellets for the ends of the cable and silver soldered them on. Then an aluminum coupler to join the cables.

There is a rubber boot that goes over this to protect it from dirt.(I took it off to snap the pic)

I did something similar to DaveM for the throttle cable hook up in my custom buggy using a Polaris Indy 440 Engine. The sled Engine I used came with the cable that has a single end for the throttle lever and then splits into 3 cable, one for each carb and one for the oil injection pump. I bought a universal throttle cable from Summit Racing to attach to my foot pedal setup. Then I just milled an aluminum block to couple the two factory barrel ends together, and it works perfectly.

Here is a picture of it. The sled Engine cable is on the left, universal throttle cable on the right.
