Well, I picked this pilot up from PPP. This was the pilot in San Francisco that had the cr500 conversion done to it.

I purchased it as a roller. Front suspension was stock, with some fox air shocks. Upper shock mounts were relocated for the longer shocks. It also had an ATV racing bump steer kit.

Rear suspension was also stock except the fox coil overs and relocated upper shock mounts.

It had a beard suspension seat as well as what looks like all the mounts for an ATV racing firewall and skid plates.

It also had an ATV racing shitty front bumper with a winch cobbled to it. .

All in all this frame was really pretty straight. Not near as bad as my Alabama pilot.. And look how it turned out.

So first thing I did was tear off all the crap I'm not going to be using. Radiator, fuel tank etc.

Next I started tontear apart the suspension. While stock is great and all, I have heard really really good things about dave-co and his Lt kit. So i decided I needed an Lt pilot and this was going to be the one. I got everything bxed up and sent to Dave co to work his magic. Kit will be on its way to me soon. I can't wait :).

My plans are to also install a sled Engine. Not sure what one I want to go with. Rotax 670/583 has been done over and over so I would really like something different. Thinking maybe a rotax etec? Yamaha phazer? Polaris? Arctic cat? I really have no plans at the moment. This is a long term project as I am also restoring my 72 k20.. And that is first priority.

So here is where it sits. A frame waiting for suspension to make it a roller again. I'm keeping my eye out for an Engine.. But not looking too hard yet. Can always "borrow" the Alabama pilot Engine and stuff to test out the Lt. This pilot probably won't get powder coat. I've found myself wanting/needing to make changes on my last pilot an odyssey but can't because of the damn powder coat. At least if it were paint... I could grind the shit off and just repaint a section.

Oh and last pic is how my k20 currently sits. As you can see.... I have a ways to go

No problem Dave. Just glad to have access to someone as knowledge able as you are with suspension to help out where I am lacking skills.

I have a 72 GMC that was my dads truck it needs a whole new body viewtopic.php?t=1697 actually I gave it to my son he wants to restore it some day, we were talking about it yesterday he said would be cheaper to buy a another rust free truck than to buy all the metal parts this one needs, do you have any 70-72 Chevy/GMC rust free finds by you?

That's exactly what I am doing to this truck. Body was shot. When I bought it it came with a rust free body. There is occasionally some rust free stuff up here. Most seem to need at least rockers. That's all my new body needed. Had a tiny hole in the passenger side rocker

The Dave-Co kit has arrived! Still need to purchase hime joints and rear shocks. But this is one step closer!

All of the welds are just beautiful, everything feels extremely sturdy. Wish I had an Engine and shocks to test it out. Can't wait to compare my Yoda +2 arms to this.

This pilot already had an ATV racing bump steer kit installed so that saved one step. Hime joints should be here next weekend but going under the knife on the 8th so progress will be slow... :(

Haha its the old bench seat out of my 72 k20 covered with an old sleeping bag that wouldn't zip and we never used. Redneck bed for the dog lol. She had an actual dog bed in the house, but this was cooler for the shop

Well, I've gotten more work done on this thing. Got my front shocks installed and it's sitting on its front feet again. Need to get my rear shocks ordered but other than that it seems to be coming together nicely.

I have 2 pitt bulls my self, Bill whos former true name was Goliath was cought in a dog fighting ring in LA, he was a fighting dog who was on his last 1 hour of life when I found him on the computer. I called about him and the lady told me he was on the docket to be euthanized at 11. I called at 10 10., the lady put him in a cage type thing and drove him to my house on a real stormy day, he was dirty, stunk to hi heaven and walked into my garage and put his chin on my knee. I knew right then he was mine!. old Bill as he is called now was no doubt a warrior, he has deep scars all over his body from many battles, his neck is heavily scared from a large chain that kept him in 1 place and rubbed his neck raw all over and severe scars from being whipped also. Also cigarette burns all over his body where some one used him as a ash tray. his front legs have heavy hash mark scars It is enough to make one sick that such a loving dog could go threw so much. Billy is the happiest dog I have ever seen,it is amazing to me. I named him Bill to get as far away from his fighting name as I could. The very first thing I did with Bill was pin him to the floor, dominating him, I had no idea if this dog was going to kill me or what lol but the 2nd thing I did was pick him up (Easy a 100 pound or more dog) and put him in the bath tub. Now I was expecting him to kill me, he just sat there and let me scrub him 4 times to get him clean, the shelter that had him did nothing to take care of him which really pissed me off. Billy has been my best friend ever since, he knows I saved his life when no one would get near him or even think about adopting him. They tried to adopt him out for a year and not 1 person ever showed even the slightest intrest. One more thing about bill, he has a real ferosios bark but hardly ever barks or growls and has many mental issues from his fighting days. the slightest noise startles him like 1000 volts going threw him He dreams about fights he has had, it is clear to anyone who has seen him sleep that he is clearly fighting in his dreams. Sad to say ol Bill is a rasist dog, he hates and wants to attack anyone of hipanic or black and nearly took my son down 1 day when he was wearing a chollo type jacket. My other Pitt is name Charlie, we got him a few yewas ago as a tiny puppy that was wondering around a friends area and we took him in on a Christmas eve. Bill and Charlie are the closest of friends but it took awhile before we could get him close to Bill. To this day Billy wants to Kill any dog he sees so we keep him away from everyone dog or person just in case, Pitt bulls are the best of all breeds in my opinion, if any of you can rescue one I promise you wont regret it. Looks like your doing good work with the kit, kinda looks like mine DUH, I like seeing the power steering in there, your going to love it.

I will agree on the fact that i believe pitbulls are one of the best dogs. Ive got Chevy and my step dad has one that is about 15 years old. Both rescue dogs. You would never be able to tell Pete (step dads dog) was 15. She will do laps around the house. after about 2 laps chevy is ready to take a nap but pete can go all day long. Kinda funny. Chevy is more like a tank, heavy on her feet a powerhouse, Pete is really light on her feet and can out run and maneuver chevy no questions asked! Fortunately Chevy was not a fighting dog but some dickhead did just dump her to fend for herself in Colfax (2500 people). She is not trusting of everybody, have to take it slow when meeting new people and let her get used to them. but once she knows you she is a sweetheart. She has never once barked or growled at me agressively, can pin her on the ground on her back, put my hand in her food dish while she eats and play with her food, just an excellent dog that someone decided to throw away.

Thanks for the kind words on my work this far. It has all gone fairly smooth. Im not too impressed with my welds in a few spots but they will hold. My power steering seems to function well. i don't have the tierods hooked up but everything moves freely. My shafts arent 100% straight but they shouldn't make a difference. it isnt like they are spinning at 10,000 RPM.

Still trying to decide what motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) i want. I just picked up a Skidoo 670 HO basket case last night for $450. Engine has lots of compression and is clean, sled is beat to shit. I really want to do fuel injection so i may just go ahead and part this sled out. It was just too good of a deal to pass up. Plus, i cant have 2 pilots with the same Engine. I have an idea of 2 engines that i would like to try and make fit. One of them would be fairly easy and the other would be a challenge. Both right around the 125-135HP mark like the 670 that does very well in my other pilot.Have beat the hell out of it with no issues other than the stock 1989 clutch pack grenaded.

The axles are straight, I am sure of it, the grinding off of the rose welds may not be perfectly round but with about 30 holes drilled into the sleeve it takes a couple hours to round them out on my burr king by hand. I go to great lengths to insure the axles stay straight with all the heavy welding involved. the axles themself are straigh I think. I started leaving the rose welds alone after making yours, I have a set on mine that have not been ground off, I wont waste that time again..
