I'm trying the quiet game!

And I'm loosing to start!

I bought a muffler for a stock MXZ800 to try and quiet the Drak down only problem now it that it's freaking huge! I have been told that the stock sleds are,

1) Quiet
2) vibration free
3) Fast

I now have two out of three. So I now quest for silence. I also bought a stock MXZ600 air box. 50% of the noise that my Drak makes is from the intake, so I bought the airbox to see,

1) if it would fit
2) see if it would quiet it down
3) there would be any performance or fuel savings

It didn't fit so I took it apart so I could see how it works and with a suggestion from Hoser, decided to build one out of wood, I'm a carpenter by trade, to get design down and then go for a metal or aluminum one at a later date. Here are some pictures.

More to come....

Can you carry a tune with that air box? Most people realize that the intake is tuned like the exhaust not to reduce sound but to tune the intake for better Engine filling, I bet your best performance will be with the factory air box installed, if you butcher it up and use your version you might even loose power, some place I read about tuning the intake but don't remember where I will have to do some searching, I could not comply with the rules they were using on my Pilot because of room constraints so never bothered to pursue it very far, now my setup has changed with the installation of the 440 Engine perhaps I can use it, hmm, you should have laid the transmission down like on the ATVR Taz car and mounted your Engine up when you did the Engine mount mod, then that air box would probably fit right in hehe, I know that would be rebuilding the whole car, gas tank, pipe etc.....

The horn is like the tune port on a speaker if I remember right.. It has to do with resonate frequencies and all kinds of other stuff I don't understand, you can bet ski-doo spent some
big bux engineering that to work on the sled.

Muffler looks like a tool capsule

Does the MXZ600 run TMX carbs? Do you think this will make a difference?

I've always found when I have played with exhaust or induction systems it's the old "matched system" thing every time - if one part is not matched you don't get the gains you could get if all parts are matched. A bit like running a huge carb with no porting and a stock pipe.

It might be worth talking to the sled guys that run TMXs and maybe even pipes like ours. As far as I know ours are Dynoport but I have never been able to compare a Drak pipe to an aftermarket sled Dynoport pipe (I can tell you single seater and two seater pipes are almost identical though - at least mine are "almost" identical - I have not ruled out the theory that somebody changed one of mine a little before I got it).

An 800 muffler and 600 airbox, why not a 600 muffler? Any smaller, or won't the configuration work?

I couldn't locate a used 600 muffler and this guy had the 800 one said they are the same. The part numbers are not the same but he claims they are. It was only $50 shipped to my house so I took a chance. We, er..... I will see!
