Hey go oddy
No wife so I don't have to worry about that. Lol. I still have a ton of pictures to post up so stay tuned. It will be completed this year, hopefully by the end of summer. Work is busy and it takes a twice the effort to do the same job now with the busted up body I have.

The skid plates were either well used or missing. I don't know about driving it without the one under the seat. The old ones were very thin, I'm guessing for weight purposes and to be run on a track and not in the desert. I went with 3/16" thick.

Attachments:
File comment: The tubing under the skid plate was crushed in one side. So the cradle that the trans bolts to was cut out and a new one made and welded in.

That's the same Ford F150 that I have. If it is the six cylinder watch out. My Engine lost a head gasket after only 120,000km. Number 1 cylinder hydrauliced and bent the connecting rod. The guy at Canada engines just laughed at me. He said take a look over there. There were pallets of V6 Fords laying there. He told me the Ford V6 had head gasket issues.

It's an 01 with the 5.4l. It has been a great truck, It only has 109xxx miles. I've replaced little things (door actuators, upper control arms) but nothing major has happened. I have a friend who had the v10 that was spitting the spark plugs out of the head.

Hey Bob, if those are zip-ties holding the brake lines and stuff in place, make sure to trim them down flush with a razor blade and try to rotate them so they face away from your legs. The cut offs make nice sharp edges that will slice your skin open! And after your recovery, I'm sure you want to keep as much blood on the inside that you can! Haha.

TripleEEE is looking good! I might have kept mine if it didn't have so many damn Engine and trans issues.

Oh yeah, they are all facing away from skin or body parts. Zip ties and hose clamps are what hold those things together. I looked over the Briggs that Chad has and it's about the same way. I tend to bleed more and longer now then before so no shorts anymore. The Engine should be reliable being as its a pilot Engine and lower end. They trans will work but not positive it won't leak somewhere. Yeah I already have a buyer if I decide to unload it.

So after a little research and looking hard enough on the web, this is the car I bought. Two different paint schemes. From what I'm told one pic is at Pismo and the other pic is a jump on the property the owner had. It had a funky cage welded on the back that held a spin tank. The original tank under the Engine is only 2 gallons. All that you could see when I picked it up was the old welds. The fuel tank had t been used in awhile and the Mikuni fuel pump wasn't hooked up. They just ran it straight from the aftermarket tank to the carb.

Very nice job on the build. It looks great.

Oh and the ford 5.4 is a great Engine. My brother has a 99 f250 with the 5.4. 290,000 miles and it runs great. Doesn't even use oil yet. Only issue he has is the coil packs going out every few months. Weird but it's an easy fix when it starts running like crap.

Thank you, I like the truck. Little things here and there but way better than the Chevy I had. Loved that Chevy but the damn thing had more issues than you could swing a stick at. Parts are pretty inexpensive for it and plentiful as well. The only thing I find hard to locate is the door handles on the inside.

The wiring harness was a mess. It has an on/off switch and then a toggle to start it. Really basic setup and a single power wire to run ???. It currently does not have a fan on it so I'm thinking of that and a water temp gauge. Uses a old Ford solenoid setup. All of the words except the two that came out of the pilot Engine were replaced. The battery hold own hinge was broken. Someone somehow welded a penny to the latch.

I wanted to keep this buggy as close to original as possible. So far other than a different color on the body panels it has stayed that way. My neighbors dad owns a chrome shop and is friends with a guy that powdercoats. Here are some pics of the arms and bumper. It uses vw type 2 ball joints.

I routed the radiator hoses different than what it came with. They had about 3 foot of hose for intake and return going everywhere. I got creative and think this will work. The one hose is a 135 degree bend. The fuel line routing has changed as I had issues with fuel bypassing the carb and all going back to the return.

Some pictures of the rear brake calipers. The original hard lines from front to back were replaced. They were pretty easy to bend. I just cut fuel line in half and zip tied it to the frame in places to hold it.

Attachments:
File comment: Master cylinder set up. They are 3/4 CNC brand. The internals were shot. It is setup to adjust the front to rear bias. I am going to buy one of the CNC adjusters to mount in the dash area to make adjustments quicker and easier.

File comment: One of the few pieces I thought I could reuse in the braking system, nope.

File comment: The Airheart caliper. It was actually in good shape just needed new pads.
image.jpg
image.jpg [ 38.58 KiB | Viewed 1998 times ]
File comment: The CNC caliper had one frozen bleeder and the other was stripped out. Pads were worn out and the Pistons were stuck. I thought about trying to salvage it but in the end bought a new one and ended up with a bunch of parts.
image.jpg

File comment: The new caliper. The brake line comes in to the caliper from the left but it was setup on the right side. I just copied the old one and drilled and tapped a hole on the right side. There is no room to bleed it mounted up so we "hung" it and put a piece of wood in between the pads.

Here are some pictures of the cv's before and after. It came originally with type 2's and I replaced them with type 4's( I think, or maybe the other way) The inboard were rusted badly from being exposed. The outlets weren't rusted but we're well used. I used vw bus cv boots that were all one piece boot and flange on the inner. On the outer it originally had a flange the cv wire tied to. I used the same setup on the outer as the inner except I ground the lip off the flange to make it flat.

You are doing a fantastic job on this Triple EEE. Very well done. Thanks for documenting it here.

I know he doesn't build these buggies any more.. last I heard, Ed, the original builder was into modifieds. But I bet he would be happy to see this one restored like you are doing. Very cool.

Thank you, there have been a bunch of people helping out. Quite a bit was done by friends in the beginning because of my accident. I hav a list of names I will throw out when it's all done. Great people.
His son is on Facebook and his profile pic was/is a picture of his modified car. Still driving for his dad it looks like. I haven't tried to contact them though.

Axle brand I have no idea. I have the length written down at home in a log book. Type 2 cv is what I'm using. Empi brand 33 spline. Their is a circlip on the inner part of the axle. The outer does not have a circlip. It came with Lobro cv's when I picked it up but the were binding before the suspension reached full droop.

What washers are you using under the CV bolts?
I highly recomend the Nordlock 2 piece/pair locking washers.
I had trouble with the FL800 cv bolts loosening, changed to Nordlocks, work well so far.
Watch this, first half is basic and boring,2nd half is good.

I am using blue loctite. I saw your post on mini buggy about those fasteners. They definitely look to be the ticket. Im hoping all goes well when I do some shake down runs but if not I will look into them.
Thanks for the video.
