Asking if anybody can tell me some info on this rotax. It came with a buggy I bought but hasn’t run in at least maybe 7-8 years. Any idea on the year and any better/worse than the current ones? I was going to try and keep the car as original as possible. I was told it has been ported but until I have it pulled apart I won’t know. Anyways here are some pics.

That is definitely an earlier rotax Engine. I would guess early 90s. It is tough to find parts diagrams for these older (sled) engines.

I have had luck on this site. Hope it helps...

From what I read online the 583's were made between 1994 to 1999.

tough to say on what year is, its definitely an earlier model as the later models they started painting the heads, should still be in the 90-100hp range.

I’m hoping parts are available if I need any? I will check out all the sites posted. Thank you for the replies. Any advantage to the earlier ones? If not I do have a newer one I can use.

Apparently fully may be right. It may be a pre 94'.
One of the things I found online said they were made '94 to '99 but they could be wrong. See below.

On the site dootalk a senior member posted this:
583 Twin wears the red badge! Pre-94 583's were unpainted
500 Twin- Yellow
670 Twin- Purple
All later Twins- Silver/Gray

I believe the first 583 came out in 88 or 89, not 100% sure

Well then he is looking at an '88 to '93 Engine.
There was one site that I was on that was an aircraft site. The guy there could tell his members what year their Engine was based on the serial number. Not sure if you need to know that precisely though.

I read that serial numbers on there engines don’t give a year. I took the Engine mount plate off the bottom there are some numbers there. The two bottom ones are 88, so possibly??
