Post subject:  How To Download GPS Data And Share.

This topic assumes you have a device to record tracks, a GPS device or cell phone with a GPS app etc. I have a few different, I have two different Garmin hand held GPS units I used to record my riding trips then at the end of each day I download the data from the GPS to my laptop.

You can do this many ways but here is how I do it and why, this may seem complicated but its not none of this is really that hard give it a try, wont cost you anything but time.

First I start up EasyGPS (see this link viewtopic.php?f=135&t=15708) and then on the menu bar click Receive (Red Arrow) a box will open up you will need to find your GPS model on the Device List for this tutorial I used my Garmin eTrex Legend H (Green Arrow) once you find your device click Ok it will download all the data off your GPS, I check all the boxes so it will download everything.

After you select Ok you should see a box popup saying its Receiving Tracks like in the pic below.

Depending on how fast your equipment is and the amount of data you have to transfer it might take a few minutes but when your done you will see something like below.

Now like any other Windows program you can use the Save As thing and save your data as a GPX format (GPS Exchange File) think of GPX as the PDF of GPS data...

SOMETIMES Google Earth will not import the GPX file for some unknown reason, I cant figure it out but when it happens I just convert the file using GPS Visualizer this is a great tool if your working with a lot of GPS files its like the Swiss army knife of GPS tools. Once you have converted you can download the file then open the file GPS Visualizer converted into Google Earth.
