OK so now the morbid part of me wants details. LOL :-) Did you go off the edge of a cliff?

With a broken back you must have taken one hell of an impact. Have your brother take pictures and post them of what's left of the Ody...... that is only if you feel like letting us all know the details.

Get well quick mad man......

Get well soon!

And don't forget the pictures.

Did the doc say anything about restrictions in the future? Sounds like you were lucky.

Should make a full recovery as I did not damage any disks but it will take a long time min 3 months for the body brace.

When we got to the top I looked at the gps data for a moment --- it said max speed 50.3 mph so I am assuming I was doing at least this speed on the way down. I remember the crash completely as I did not pass out. When I came upon the washout all I had time to do was dump the throttle and boooom. I hit it at full speed. My brother had stopped just past it to warn me as it almost caught him, but he was a bit to far down the road for me to see him in time. He said he stopped there because he didn't want me to hit him if there was a crash. At impact I immediately felt the pain in my back. Oddy went airborne and rolled up side down in the air and landed on the roof (maybe a flip in air I don't know). I saw the cage collapse on me and something smashed my visor on my helmet and I felt the blood. From there things got really wild and I could not tell which way was up or down. Not sure how many flips. My brother said there are four impact marks not counting the initial impact. The machine then rolled down an embankment (fair ways down too) and I was covered with leaves, debris and branches were slapping me inside the cockpit. Machine stopped up side down hung up by some sapling's. From what my brother told me if I went any farther there is a very steep drop off. Don't know but will check it out when I get better. My brother came down the hill and grabbed the phone and headed down the hill with his oddy to get cell reception. While I waited I killed ants and dear flies that were biting me. Took three hrs to finally helicopter me out.

I don't know about you guys but I think the Honda engineers who designed this chassis did a great job.
Keep in mind that this was a crash that happened at highway speeds. I was doing at least 50 mph.
Thanks to Honda I am still alive with minimal damage to my body.

Wow, that tweaked the top of the frame pretty good. Probably some severe damage to the lower frame also.

Honda built these things like tanks, very robust and hold up well in an accident.

Glad to hear you're going to recover with little to no issues.

I have come to the conclusion that Honda did not design these machines for off road racing.
My brother and I are clearly over driving these machines.
They are basically sand machines in my opinion.
The suspension in the rear can be called poor at best.
When I rebuild my machine I don't think I will be driving it without improvement of the rear shocks. I noticed on the a few rides before this crash that my back was very sore. In fact a couple of days I had to actually "roll" out of bed because my back was to sore to jump out. I have (had) a good back prior to this crash. In my opinion I don't think anyone should drive and fl350 without replacing the rear shocks and springs with something better. I know this did not cause this crash but like I said above the rear suspension is suspect at best. It is way to stiff and you will damage your back. Just my opinion.

I wouldn't poop like that either!! Great call on that one, very glad you will make a full recovery. Awesome photo of the copter ride! That must have been something to experience, it looks like your hanging from a cross. Liquid cooling your Oddy saved the day as the radiator helped to support the roll cage... Lol. Damage to the machine is minor compared to 12 weeks of suffering, This is the second cliff I have seen someone survive by being in an oddy. Proven design(you really didn't need to test it!!), do you have parts to repair?

Good to see you back online

Do as the Doc has said don't over do it

Get well soon

Considering that the Oddy is 30 Years old It held up well. And yes Honda must of done
there homework, Bend not snap.

Works or custom shocks are a MUST

Yeoddy

Oh that will buff right out I would not worry for now focus on getting better..

WORKS shocks in the rear is a MUST on a FL350 the factory spring rates and valving was 100% wrong.

Holy hell, that Oddy looks like it melted! Glad all is well.

I've said it before, but that terrain is simply awesome. And the "old mines"?? Would love to had such a cool playground as a kid and adult. We had a woods, old train tracks and an old grain elevator to explore, but mines & mountains are just friggin' awesome.

There are a few old mines around here but we don't go in them -- very dangerous.
If you look close you can see that the timbers have their backs broken by the pressure above them.
Even though it was a very hot day there was an ice cold wind blowing out of that mine shaft. Must be another opening up top somewhere. This was a gold mine and there are a few silver mines around too.
Just to dangerous to go in because roofs are so unstable and there could be an animal like a cougar or bear inside, that would be exciting wouldn't it ??

Glad you're out of the slammer and that a recovery looks to be in your future. That's a tough spot to be in from just having fun. I'd bet the very same could easily happen to anyone here reading this. Wishing you the best.

Beautiful area you live in man, as I have said before. Thanks for posting pics.
