Hello all,

I have a Dodge 2001 Caravan SE, with the 3.3L Engine, which can use E85 or unleaded fuel.......I did a smoke test due to an emission code I was getting. I did have smoke coming out from the gas cap, as it did not seem to be sealing.

My question is, is there a difference in gas caps designed for the different fuels? I have tried searching online, and checked different auto parts stores. Some have different caps for the different fuels (yellow vs black) and other stores list the same cap for both fuels.......I am also checking with the dealership, but so far cannot find a definitive answer.

I did try two different brands of caps (Carquest and Stant) but both leaked......(smoke test both times)......

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I can't really say for sure but don't you need to vent a fuel tank ??
It would create a vacuum if you didn't.
Not sure how fuel systems in vehicles do it today, but if it is a vented system then you're gona get a positive for a leak somewhere.

That is true, but I believe it is to be vented thru the emissions (evap) system. All the videos and information I have gotten is that the first thing you do is check your gas cap for a good seal. Kind of like when you put gas in your vehicle, if you do not tighten the gas cap good, it will give you an error code. The codes are P0442 and P0455.

Thanks
