So what do u guys use or do to clean up discolored fenders. Over the years the the sun has darkened my gator fenders. I was removing decals from the hood and the area under the black writing on the decals are still nice and green because the UV rays didn't penatrate those areas.
My first thought is wet sanding and maybe rubbing compound on a buffer.
I figured I'd check with you guys first to see if there is a prefred method.

I had luck with graduated wet sanding and than a dry wool buffing pad on a grinder on the red pilot #1. The pad seemed to load up after a while and not be as effective but did put a nice permanent shine on the plastic surface while still clean. I think it almost melted the top surface of the plastic, but not sure. A heat gun brought back the color on my blue Raptor fenders where they were bent and had white spots or creases.

I used this product for my pilot. I heard some good reviews about it but looking at how bad my pilot was and that I was trying to revive red, I thought maybe I was burning up my hands and shoulders for nothing. In the end it looked great and approx. 5 years later still looks pretty good.

Thank you guys. I appreciate the input.
I've been wet sanding it with three different coarsees of sandpaper. Finishing with 2000 grit.
I got to say it's a job. I think I will just do the top of the hood for now unless I can "Tom Sawyer" the wife to do it,just have to look like I'm having lots of fun.

I'll get some pics up when I'm done.

Careful with this idea. When I still had fenders on my oddy's and we crashed them (a lot) I would take them to a local plastic fabrication shop to get put back together. It's a little hole in the wall place that has been around for ever and they don't even advertise (no signs). I told the guy I heard of an idea about using a heat gun to restore the look on old fenders. His reply was "Fkn you tube dummies". I replied that based on comment that was a bad idea. We both had a good laugh. He said once the plastic looks checked and cracked the UV from the sun has damaged it. Putting heat on it will just make the fenders very brittle.

Thank you CO I will keep that in mind.
I have the hood sanded as good as I'm gonna get it. I will hit it with a buffer tomorrow,,, this gator is a pure woods gator so I'm not too worried about looks but I had to try.

So I gave up on this after looking at a piece of plastic I cut out and seeing the discoloration was about 1/3rd of the way through.
So in good ol lazy fashion I just changed it out with one from one of my other gators.
I do appreciate the input though.
