Post subject:  steam cleaning a carb

Some of you may recall on my 6x4 gator the slow circuit in the carb was plugged up. I used carb cleaner, butane ect but the slow circuit on the gator was still plugged up. People replace these carbs because u can not got the slow circuit cleaned out. New carb is 165$ one seller on ebay has sold hundreds.

So I used steam to clean it out and it worked. I have a Profesional jewelry steam cleaner. It has a fine tip and u operate it with a foot pedal. Produces a high pressure jet of steam and once I bolted the carb back on it ran better then it ever has. Years ago I had to run with the choke part way closed due to that clogged up circuit. I think it may have contributed to my blown head gasket it sure didn't help.

So I see some of u guys have carbs that just don't act right. I'd be happy to give steam cleaning one a shot. So if u got a carb sitting around that u know is plugged up just pay shipping and I'll give it a try.
By the way butane is a solvent and I find the freezing effect combined with the pressure and solvent works great on all but the worst plugged up carbs.

Interesting solution and idea.

I don't understand how a carb can not be cleaned. When these things are manufactured they obviously can not be made by casting blind directional change passages. Each orfice must have an in and out and if it has to go around a corner or go up there would be no way to drill that passage unless there was a plug somewhere that you could remove. You can only drill in a straight line. Therefore each in and each out would be a straight line. Remove a plug and clean out. Then replace the plug.
