Had a fun ride yesterday with my friend Marc.

I had 2 small issues I had with my buggy. The first was gettting hooked up on a stump around a corner. The nerf bar took a small impact and it was at just the right angle to catch the rear wheel. It didn't brake the bead on the tire so I was able to hammer it back pretty good and continue riding. Shortly after the same wheel past me while I was driving. Damn cotter pin in the axle nut! At least I know the shock savers work. LOL. Quick fix and continued on.

Fall riding is awesome, sometimes the leave covered ground hides possible foes though.

Fall is my favorite time to ride as well. I didn’t even see the stump. I felt the rear hop a bit around the turn. I thought maybe a rock but the buggy behind me saw the stump after. Kept going then realized it didn’t feel right. The leaves definitely camouflage the ground.

I was a little bummed about the wheel but glad it didn’t ruin a day of riding. I got the wheel pretty close and rode it The remainder of the day. I’ll be able to straighten it out enough to continue using hopefully.

That’s a good idea. Where would I get a small jack like that? What are they typically used for?

This was in Attleboro, MA. My friend Marc has access to these trails right from his house and he said we didn’t go to all the areas. The power lines were fun and could pick up some good speed. It was my first time riding it with the works shocks up front. They felt good and had more control of the front end. I tried new wheels with a bigger offset than oem. They also felt good, a little more feedback through steering. It’s tough to get the correct offset DWT wheels. I waited nearly 5 months for the last set I purchased. The owner of the shop said they had to have them made. Not sure how true that was? :-)

The last time I went to get four tires mounted on rims they charged me $100!!!! It used to be $10 per wheel!!!

Bought myself a tire changing machine this past weekend to have in my shop. Works great and had the tires off in minutes. I found a little jack also advertised as a "bottle Jack".

Some better photos of the wheel damage.

Oh boy Curtis, I think it is time to give up on that puppy. When they get bent like that you just can not get them back straight from my experience.

I might have 1 or 2 rims. Are those Douglas .190? What is the offset and width?

Yes, they are Douglas .190 10x9 3+6 I have 2 sets of this wheel. This set that is now damaged and one other set that came with my pilot. They currently have paddles mounted on them. All my other wheels are 10x8 3+5 and I am going to stick with this size from now on. I already swapped the wheels from my #13 buggy over to the #47. Finally gave the #13 a nice little upgrade.

I was concerned about the repair when I saw the bend within the rim when I took the tire off. I was hoping to get it good enough to use on them FL350 I am fixing to sell. We'll see? I don't want to invest to much time and money on a wheel that's only worth $50 in good condition & $85 new. Let me know if you have decent spare.

Call OMF. They take Douglas Blue or Red label rims and turn them in to Beedlocks. Cost is about ~$200 per rim and you wont have this problem again.

That seems like a waste of money to me. To take a rim and have it modified for $200 & pay all the shipping on top.

OFM will make a brand new bead lock wheel for $260. That’s what bones quoted me for my pilot anyway. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet but, I so want to. One day.

Your more than welcomed to come ridding anytime curtis. It was good to have another odyssey to ride with for once. Hopefully we can set up something for more buggies to come ride next time.

those OMF wheels are sweet, but you really don't need bead lock rims...all you really need it s stiffener ring welded in. if done right they will look like bead locks. I've been contemplating this for a while now..
