Please keep this forum going. Facebook is where content goes to die - just try searching for some 2-3 year content that you know is there, good luck finding it. Can't be indexed by google, Facebook's own search ignores it most of the time. I really don't understand why all the motorsports communities went that way.

I'm into sprint karting as well as just having picked up a FL350, and it's the same thing in that community. All Crapbook all the time, and no one really participates there and they wonder why their sport keeps shrinking.

That said the place I go the most for karting is a forum based site http://kartpulse.com , and if anything it's actually been slowly picking up steam in the last couple years despite it all.

*uck Facebook!

Research Facebook searching, has to be a way to search and find all the Pilot Odyssey stuff.

If your seeing a problem on FB betting so is many others and they have found solutions.

IF you can harvest all the Pilot Odyssey related discussions as HTML they could be relocated to another web server, that would take a bunch of time keeping it organized then building a menu to access the info, searching would not be really that hard.

Look at Related Searches to the right of the page that might give further ideas.

@Hoser - you lost me a bit there. I don't think anyone has any solutions for Facebook searching short of downloading the contents of the entire group they belong to in a .csv file using the Facebook API, which only geeks like me would figure out :-). It's just pretty much a black hole there for content - once it's off the main page, it's basically gone as far as the general population goes.

Props to you, this place is a treasure. I rummage around here multiple times a day using the google "site:pilotodyssey.com mysearch" method.

The best way to find something here is to use the search box above.
In the search box type ONE word ONLY and hit enter. If you don't you will get to many hits.
When the list of threads comes up there will be another search box there on the right.
In that box type ONE word ONLY. Keep doing this as many times as you want until you have narrowed it down. Some common words will be ignored like "Engine" "Honda" etc.
Also at the very bottom of any thread you read will be an area where there a similar threads to the one you are reading. You can click on them to read.

Edit: This used to be an awesome site. Unfortunately many have left or just got old like me (62) and have left but show up rarely now. I still have and work on my 3 FL350's.
We had many very very talented and smart people here in the past. One guy named Lee actually worked for Honda but hasn't showed for years now.

Thanks for the search suggestion, I'll have to give that a shot.

Also, I get that the activity here has dwindled significantly, and I'm sure for the long-timers that's a drag, but for a FL350 newbie, I still really appreciate having this site around. Head and shoulders above the rest of the FL350 online resources, imho.

I do check this site once in a while so if you want to know something specific about the FL350 just post it here on the site and I'll reply when I see it.
I also have some stuff on youtube. Just put my screen name here into youtube search.

Thanks hoser, this is the perfect conversation to illustrate my point. That you have decided not to take part in Facebook is actually a great help in this regard:

I believe you carry (an understandable) assumption that is essentially, 'Well, Facebook is the preeminent site everyone has gone to, they left places like this so therefore it must have some things going for it, and certainly something like being able to search the content would be an afterthought.'

Unfortunately, this IS COMPLETELY WRONG. :-)

Just look at the results from the link you gave. All of the results are either "Group" homepages, profile pages of companies, or "Marketplace" ads. None of the search results from this link include any of the actual content from the groups themselves (e.g., individual posts).

"Well, this must be because the search for "FL400" is such a general search that, of course, nothing but very general results will be listed"
So, what happens if we make the search more specific: "fl400 drill piston" - https://duckduckgo.com/?q=site%3Afacebo ... fab&ia=web - what results come back for that? Absolute *shit, with nothing relevant to the subject at all, and more specifically NO GROUP POSTS (again the individual content people are posting).

You're not missing anything, there is nothing that anyone is "missing". Facebook does not allow indexing of individual content (by using robot.txt files and other means) and does not not even provide a remotely useful search function of its own content. As I keep saying, after a post goes off the front page of a group it is all but disappeared for future use/discovery.

Why is this happening? Because Facebook has somehow calculated that it is in their interest to direct attention/eyeballs/clicks in other ways. imho, the bigger question is why have so many motorsports enthusiasts mindlessly gone along with this and not realized at some point that their content is being flushed down the toilet along with it's/their chances of being 'found'.

Yup! Makes no damn sense at all.

So much technical information has been lost on so many sites it boggles the mind.

Buggy Masters went off line a while ago, MiniBuggy is trying to find a new owner or it's shutting down, and for the last few days I thought this site was gone.

Doing my best to keep this one up and running Hostgator is NO HELP they keep screwing up, thinking about dumping them and going with a different company, when I get time I am going to research another hosting company.

You might have noticed the site was down for a few days, I wanted to try/test some new website software and the automatic installer was not working, contacted tech support, they said no problem we can install it for you so I gave them all the info including the LOCATION to install it they did not follow my instructions and install it in the directory I wanted they installed in the ROOT of my website screwing everything up, as you might have seen. THEN they wanted to charge me $75 to restore my website to where it was BEFORE they broke it. Yeah I came unglued on them, so they said they would restore without charging me lol. Hostgator broke my site then wanted to charge, I wasted about 6 hrs trying to sort it all out and discover how incompetent they really are. Happy New Year to me

Probably a blessing to me finding out now.

Its a shame to see website shut down and all the knowledge go to waste, users spend hundreds if not thousands of hours contributing then poof gone.

Try finding the missing site using the https://web.archive.org/ if they help you please donate to keep them going.

My site is there but I see its last update was 2016 someone should request they update again, I just do not have the time.
https://web.archive.org/web/20230000000 ... dyssey,com

I try to keep current backups of my site, might check into better backups, like daily, only thing that really needs a gaily backup would be these forums and the databases for these forums.

Also on my list of shit to do is ensuring if I "Die Suddenly" the site will continue on, right now I think I am paid up for the next year+ but after this last fiasco who will call my host and tell them to fix it, no sense in others trying to look at a website that's broken until the money runs out....

Thoughts?

Sorry to hear about the hassles, @hoser. I always had good luck with Rackspace and Digital Ocean hosting, but ymmv. Also, I noticed that images are still not showing up for at least some threads, this one for instance - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20938 - hopefully it's just a path issue or something like that and not actual missing files...

UPDATE: NEVERMIND THAT LAST PART - JUST SAW YOUR MESSAGE IN THE OTHER THREAD :-)
