It’s been on hold quite a while due to blah blah blah, but today I’ve dug into building stainless steel header and sidewinder exhaust to try to kick some life back in my Drakart R1 project.

I think I can tuck the battery under the header in that area below but I'm afraid the gas tank is gonna need to go above the FNR box somehow, which I don't like, but this thing is a tight squeeze. Also a little worried about the short chain getting hot but I cant really move the Engine forward or FNR back to get them away from one another. Everything kinda tight.

Why not put one small fuel cell on each side of the machine (on the outside) next to your seat. Then cage it in. Like the pic below.

very nice, on the battery, they don't like heat and they make their own, what about a small one between your legs where Draks normally put the gas tank?

There's a nice spot up front.I put a Deka ETX16 in a madeup tray fits perfectly and gets cooling.

CO that’s a cool scoot. Interesting solution and they keep center of gravity in check down there too. Still thinking.

Thanks Kuma. Very good point on the battery. When I had the geo Engine the battery was down under the exhaust header but that’s not likely gonna work any more. I’ll try to find some pics somewhere. I never knew there were draks with the tank up between legs. Mine was between the butt of seat and the front of Engine, also under the cold header.

Bugeye- thanks! Mine has that same little spot up there. Your pic shows an excellent solution.

Working towards motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) mounts now. Trying to keep them as easily removable as possible for Engine removal, strong, and keep the sprockets aligned... very tricky juggle. I have this tacked up for now. Want to make sure nothing is in the way as I move along.

I have to mount the Engine rigid. Will be trying to get a small amount of pivot of the FNR box by reworking its mounts (so as to be able to install the chain).

I think I have been worried about the short chain length for nothing. Youtube has videos of bunches of R1 powered cars( fiat, mini, VW, etc) with even shorter chains than mine and I know they all weigh much more.

Pardon my bad attitude here and fly in the soup comment but that just seems like a hell of a lot of power for what looks like a spindley looking frame. It appears I have a small pair compared to some of you guys.

I think it's cool as heck.
Man if I had one I would stuff it in my pilot.
Stretch the frame and give it WOT (Wide Open Throttle).
I have been looking for a Engine and decided not to. If seen R1 powered cars run at the track. There fast.
Thanks for sharing the build. I will be watching for sure.

The car was powered by a 3 cylinder Chevy Geo car Engine previously. I am adding beef and gussets best I can where it needs. If you search YouTube Or google with the search term “R1 Powered” you’ll find a LOT more to be concerned about than this Drakart. This Engine is up there. No question. But I’ve wanted one since seeing a single seat R1 powered home built up in silver lake a few years ago.

Couple random thoughts if anyone has input. Initially I was thinking to possibly incorporate velocity stacks and individual foam filters. I’ve seen this on R1 engines but I’m looking at my air box and seeing some electrics in there. Making me think to maybe just trim the box nose a bit around my frame and Just keep it as is for more assurance I’m not screwing with the computer plus the box takes air from under, a little more protection from flying sand. The bike exhaust had no such electrics.

Can't really help you on that one but I do know there have been a few threads about "gulp capacity". The air intake has a lot of effect on the performance. I remember reading here that when you first nail the throttle on an oddy there needs to be a lot of available air initially when the slide opens or the Engine will sputter before the get up and go. This is why the comments were, you need a big air box and big intake runner. That's what I remember reading anyways. Don't remember the thread.
Randman is our filter guy. He has worked for years in the industry. Unfortunately he don't show up very often anymore. Send him a PM and the next time he logs on he'll see it. I know that you already know that since you've been a member for years but just throwing it out there.

SuuuuuWeeeeet!!!! Very cool, Thanks for posting that!

I spent the day on it today. Pics would be boring but I gusseted a bunch of the frame tube connections, final welded the exhaust and the front and rear Engine mounts. Found a 530 16 tooth front sprocket and scoped out radiator location. Little by little.

I like all kinds of pics
I learn from them.
The tigers we're a chain drive and they had a spring loaded tensioner to help with a short chain. That way you don't have to run it as tight and reduce stress. I don't recall the brand of chain. Pretty sure they used on to reduce stretch. Maybe look of drakman threads. I think it was the back lash side.

I found a few pics, also I do believe they ended up using an X chain sidwiender.

Awesome, thanks for posting these. The idler sprung directly from the Drakart FNR box is most interesting to me. I'd really like to find details and source of that setup. I could make the arm and spring but the idler and bearing itself likely has a source. Thinking on this, I assume the tensioned idler helps with any issues of too much pressure on both the Engine countershaft as well as the Drakart box. Both of which are pricey and hassle to repair.

You may be able to look over drawn and ted's post and find. It looks to bolt to the case. I do not know if they drilled and put it in or it came that way.
Back in 80 I put a swing arm on my 185 three wheeler and used a set. It was placed mid way between the sprocket's. I used a spring from one to the other and let it float with a small low tension spring pulling it down on the back lash side. I had one and had some issues due to the short swing arm. Now it was 185 so not much power however solved the problem of throwing the chain and chain stretch. Sorry no pics. No phone back then.
Maybe search for tensioners or talk to baz (bugeye). One of those pics I think came from his machine the blue one.
