Post subject:  Steering wheel switch
I know nobody is on the site anymore but maybe I'll get lucky with a reply.

Recently during the floods here, a guy trapped in town had an oddy on his truck.
He had just purchased this machine and was on his way home.
I invited them to my place and they left the oddy here for me to repair.
There was a tremendous amount of things wrong with this machine so I won't list.

But I noticed that there was an extra switch on the steering wheel.
All of the oddy's have a blank in the cover of our steering wheels for this switch.
If you look close at the pics below you will see it right above writing that says "start".
I took the cover off to see what the color of the wires were. There was a grey and a black.
Anybody know what this extra switch does ??

The only gray wire in the FL350 wiring harness is to do with the Change switch F N R ( rev Limiter )

and only solid black wires are to do with starter and ignition switch and to the rectifier.

Limiter over ride

Might have to chase the wires

Looks factory, or was a very nice install. I was thinking the same thing, trace the wire to see what it does.

Hope you are well CO. Good to see you posting. Love the story of the guy getting stranded in your town nd finding you to work on his Odyssey. Post back if find out what the switch does.

How is your town recovering from the flood?

Thx for the replies guys.
It is definitely factory.
If you look at the install, the harness and connections and the switch are factory.
Don't know if I have time to trace wires.

My town doing fine except for those living near the river or the creeks.
Some places there damaged bad or completely gone.
Highways are going to cost big $$$$$. Can anyone say taxes going up ??
Have to go pick up some sand bags today.

I have seen a few guys on the Facebook groups with a switch like that. Very Rare factory option for Sub-lights.
Imagine Fog lights for an Ody, mounted in front of the foot tub.

That makes sense since this machine does have a Hondaline tach on it. Who ever originally owned this machine before this guy bought it, spent some money on it. The last owner seemed to be clueless. The counter balancer had NO oil in it and the trans was low. Saw some metal flakes in the trans oil so I know early signs of transmission A/B gear bearing damage for sure. Not to bad though. Also that guy wired in some LED light in the front instead of buying some bulbs for the original lights. Many other things wrong that I could write a book about.

Edit: Oh my that picture with the front lights guarantees it. If you expand that picture you can see the bracket the lights are mounted on. If you look at the videos I posted in my youboob channel you can see that exact bracket and the guy mounted that LED light on it.

Ok I can confirm the extra switch on the steering wheel is for the Honda front "fog" lights.
The wire goes to that front bracket on the bumper (see pic).
The bracket on the front bumper is the exact one that Honda had with the "fog" lights.
This machine did not have any power to those wires. Probably because the key switch is missing on this machine and the guy "hot wired" it. This is probably the reason the guy ran a separate power wire from the battery for his one LED light on the bumper.
The only thing that starts or shuts down this machine now is the kill switch on the steering wheel.

It is odd that the steering wheel cover has no “on - off” by the switch. I would expect Honda to add that.

Good to know what it is for. I have never heard of this option.

If you look at the picture that Lanix posted above from facebook you can clearly see the "on" and "off" markings on the steering wheel. This machine however did NOT have those markings. The only thing I can think of is that if a machine came from Japan already with this option then the markings would be there. If you requested the option at the dealer they probably just put in the switch without the markings.

I believe the on/off markings were just decals that came with the Hondaline headlight kit.

Don’t see those accessories on many of them. Nice score for the owner.
