Drakman and I are discussing putting some switches on our steering wheels in the new Drakarts. While searching for a simple momentary switch/button, I came across what the current F1 cars are using. Amazing how much stuff they pack on the wheel.

Here is the decoder...

1. Pit lane speed limiter
2. Differential +
3. Engine push
4. Gear upshift
5. Traction control +
6. Engine push setting switch
7. Clutch lever
8. Traction control
9. Team info inlap
10. Burn out
11. Multifunctional switch
12. Lambda 13. Diagnostic
14. Wing angle info switch
15. Clutch
16. Differential selective switch
17. Team radio
18. Traction control -
19. Gear downshift
20. Engine break
21. Differential -
22. Neutral
23. Display page change

I seen a special on F1 cars and how they transport them from race to race they were showing the spare parts they had a spare steering wheel forget what it cost but it was not cheap, I bet its more than the cost of the new Deakart.

I was wondering how I was gonna keep track of which button to push, no way I could cope with that thing!

All you need is shift up and down?

I took a close look at Evan Evans home made shifter for his race truck all he used was a piece of 1/8" solid rod bent at a raduis slightly larger than his steering wheel it wraped 1/2 way around behind the wheel, it attached to the steering colum and hinged he attached micro switches to a lever attached to the hinge, pull up (with one or all fingers) to up shift push down to down shift.
