Hello all,
Just wanted to get some suggestions for towing my ATV's. I am looking at getting a new trailer, 7 foot wide by 14 to 16 foot, tandem axle, preferrably enclosed. I am thinking of V nose, with electric brakes.

Anybody have any reccommendations on brands? Any particular options I should get? Anything I should look for if buying used?

Thanks,
Max

The axles are the most important part of a trailer. I have had several trailers and believe that the best axles are Torqflex. They ride lower, smoother and are fully independent.

If you have the money, aluminum is much lighter, if not, steel is plenty good enough. There are now some made with FRP, 'fibreglass reinforced plywood' sides that seem pretty good.

The one piece roofs made out of aluminum seem to have the fewest problems. The ones with rubber roofs will eventually need to be replaced, if it sets out like most do, it will require it sooner.

Best to get one with a totally flat floor and with the wheels set off to the side, this makes more space inside and also makes it more stable.

I have had flat, rounded, and V-nose, the V-nose is far and away the best.

As far as tie downs, many trailers will have D-rings in the floor, to me, they always seem to be in the wrong place. You can easily install E-track or airline track and have lots of flexibility in tie down places, you can even install it on the walls of the trailer.

The best trailer I ever had was a Featherlite, but, they are expensive, about three times the cost of a bargain brand. Haulmark is OK, but I don't know if you can get a V-nose in this brand.

There are some 'motorcycles trailers' on Ebay for around six grand that look really good, Roadmaster is the brand if memory serves me. The low profile will even fit in a standard height garage door.

Another thing you might consider is a box truck, if you have other needs for a strong truck, this would do that also. Older ones can be had for the price of a nice new trailer, and in some cases, even less.

I have had Haulmark trailers (6x10 and 6X12) and can't complain for the service I got out of them. With the price of steel going way up since 2003 they are getting pricey. I have a 7 X 16 Continental Cargo dual axle now and can fit 2 pilots in it and possibly a dirt bike. I haven't gone long distance with it yet but will be test-towing it very shortly. What I have learned from my history of purchases is what ever you buy add 2 feet to it's length because you will use it.

P.S. A must have is a ramp door and side door with interior lights.

Do you have a nice Red truck and nice Red pilot to go with nice shiny Red trailer. Go Honda!
